What's the difference?

Genuinely shocked, that some City fans have watched this team for the last four years and are still so bereft in their understanding of the game. I mostly see this in an inability to understand performances outside of the result, and in discussions that revolve around Gundogan and Rodri. Unforutantly, a lot of fans don't know how to understand what they are watching.

To be fair, the Engish have never been known for their great understanding of the game, even though they invented it.
All I’m reading here is a load of passive-aggressive posturing with no real attempt to address the actual analysis of Gundogan’s attributes, or offering any alternative viewpoint. Weak.

Has @Dax777 been reincarnated :)

Definitely think playing Fernandinho at CB has hindered us massively. Purely because we’re missing his presence in midfield.

we’ve basically lost a world class central midfielder for the whole season

Apologies if this fits into another thread but I was asked an interesting question this evening, what do you think the difference is between last season (minus KDB) and this season (where we're not the same without KDB)?

Clearly we've missed Laporte at CB and as a result Fernandinho in midfield. We're also missing Sane. Is it really the massive void of Vinny? Is it a combination?

What do you think it is?
Sometimes, the very same players give you different levels of performance.

Ederson hasn't been great ( passing or keeping)
Laporte has been out.
Sterling is a shell of himself
Bernado is half the player he was last year
David is a poor version of the old David
Sane has been injured
Dihno isn't as good as he was last year.
Zinchencko has been injured and inconsistent

In the other side of the ledger
Mahrez and Gabby have improved.

So if you add Walker that's 3 positives and 8 negatives. It's no surprise we are struggling.

Also, we are suspect against counter attacking teams. Liverpool had been doing that to us long before they became better. United has done it 3 times this season and won all 3.

This counter them on speed will be used against us until we are able to solve it.

So far we haven't been able to.

Complete lack of support the defence is getting from midfielders is a joke. The way we let quick runners go one vs one at Otamendi is a mistake from midfielders being nowhere near. This is gonna be the way they will finish us in CL probably next round already.
This is incorrect. A few other teams play us on the counter. They've devised a tactic that has a history of working against us. It's on us to figure out how to counter it.

a number of difference

Centre halves who can defend 1vs1 and have decent distribution - this is really affecting the fullbacks especially as our left back position is so weak (normally Laporte helps this)

Midfielders - no ferna centrally - did so much covering and so mobile - Gundogan and Rodri no where near his level and this hugely affects the whole team -we need better,

D.Silva - the drop off in performance from him is noteable

No width - Mahrez blows hot and cold, Sterling has been poor the second half of this season and is struggling...Sane - his absence and the fact that he is about to screw the club hasnt helped - we will have to sell and what we get for him we wont be able to replace witht he same quality

Without Kun performing, we dont have a real threat upfront -

You can see it,I can see it- Pep doesn't see it...!@#*^%^^&

I honestly think there are players that we should start to offload, we know the players who are not good enough don't we.
City should try to recoup as much as they can for each of these players and recruit better players.
If we can get 280 million for Sterling and Sane we should start with that.
Sterling is bang average and has been for months and Sane is never going to sign a new contract.
Mendy, Stones, Ota, Cancello, Zinchenco, all need moving on.

3 big things

Vinny,i knew it woud rock us

Losing eric for so long

Putting dinho at the back and expecting a new player learning a completely different way to play and expecting it to work and sticking with it when it screaming out there was a masive hole there and teams walking through it

Add sane as he gives us something no other player in the team has

3rd season,it's just not possible to keep up the intensity

VAR

Aside from that nothing

Aside from that there is also the massive decline in performances of Bernardo Silva (since the Mendy tweet) and Sterling (since the Gomez incident? ).
