Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Anyone with a new persistent cough or high temperature is now advised to self-isolate for seven days, as the UK government moves to the "delay" phase of its plan to tackle coronavirus.

How can you make someone play a contact sport in these circumstances? I would imagine the Players Unions might get involved. In Italy they are practising social distancing and it would be reasonable to expect all of us to be doing the same, in the not too distant future.

No handshake last night but after getting all sweaty during 120mins there were cursory handshakes at the end!

Schools will try and be the heroes in this and stay open regardless, even though we have a battle plan drawn up for two weeks.

Schools in Rep of Ireland closed as of today. Just attended a meeting after school today...no closure yet but they are planning for the likelyhood of it...feeling is (but no one really knows) that it will be very likely to happen in about a week (country wide)... nothing concrete though

Government announcing that they haven't banned sporting fixtures as there is no scientific data that supports it.

Think the players and clubs will have the final say though.
It's funny, because they're saying when the epidemic approaches it's peak, they have it "up their sleeve" that they can ban mass gatherings.

It seems to me, they are just trying to manage the capacity of the NHS.

Carry on as normal for now, loads of you will get it, then when we approach the peak, we'll start taking measures (like banning mass gatherings) so we can reduce the risk of more getting it.

Basically they're saying - some of you aren't going to make it, but we have to manage the capacity of the health service.
