Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

They’re just delaying the inevitable so they don’t have to make any tough decisions about titles, relegations, promotions etc yet. Whatever they decide would lead to threats of legal action off somebody

Agree with this, the longer the delay in restarting there will be an inevitable knock on in terms of the capability of running future seasons as planned. Once they accept there is going to be a financial hit, it becomes about the least worst option from a cost perspective. Let’s say the delay means we can only have 9 seasons instead of 10 worth of football with a 202x champion, do you give up a full season of revenues for everyone, or a part season where some clubs will want financial compensation? Would Sky & BT really play hardball with the Premier League in refunding TV money when Online streaming companies are on the horizon already?

Also, as others have said, I expect there will plenty of people who will re-evaluate priorities during this pandemic.

So no cut of date? How long do you want to wait? 18 months to finish the leagues? You do no until they have a vaccine that works which could be a minimum of 12 months once they have one they have make it in bulk then everyone has to have it that’s 65m just in this country!

Sorry some people are living in cloud cuckoo land that ANY SPORT be played in the next 6 months at least.
There won’t be any sport played in this country in the next 6 months. But if they’d announced a cut off of say 30 sept then that would have been taken by many to mean that the PL were planning to resume football on 1 Oct. it would just have triggered a thousand questions that can’t be answered. At the moment people want instant answers to every question. Fine if the question is “will my kid be going to school on Monday?”. But for most things that’s just not possible.

The answer to your question “how long do you wait?” is until you can make sensible decisions

Don't think a ball will be kicked in anger until next summer & we'll 'kick off' with the Euro's.

Whatever penalities are build into commercial contracts should be voided or at least on prorata, they've all had exposure for 4/5 of the season & EVERYBODY needs to suck something up with the world in the state it's in at the moment.

Yep fair enough.
