Best player you have played with (or against)

Dennis Tueart. I used to play in a 5 a side against his promo company. He was very robust. One game finished with a huge bruise halfway up my shin from "a perfectly fair tackle". (His words.)
A good bloke, we socialised occasionally. He was teetotal and quite reserved.
Also played for years with a guy from Buxton Town and another from Guiseley, (Hi Mike, hi Rob), plenty of skill.

Played against Scholes he was on the right wing and his side were winning 4-0 by half time. I got moved to left back from midfield to stop him. We lost 5-2 but we won the half I had to deal with him.
Played against a few other class of 92, Butt, Thornley and a good few who could have made it but wanted to be Gangsters instead.

Only played against one kid who became a professional, Tony Whelan, he played for St Paul's of Urmston and I played for Stretford Grammar.

Simon Yeo (of Lincoln City) at primary school. Three years older than me. He used to sometimes be on our side in 1st years v 4th matches and he alone would tip the balance, just basically dribble past all their defenders and smash it in

Simon was a very good player when at Hyde. Easily the best striker in the league at the time. Used to play upfront with Rob Hulse, if my memory serves me right. Nice lad too.

Lincoln legend! Grew up watching him at Sincil Bank.

Sam Slocombe, goalkeeper for S****horpe United, Lincoln, Oxford and others. Used to come down the park and kick about with us, and he played Sunday league for a team that we would regularly face to get a panning.

Lee Ridley in 6 aside, veteran league LB who was mid 30s and ran all us 18 year olds ragged and scored about 8.

I was at school with Brian Roberts who played for Coventry. As a kid he played left wing with great success but Coventry turned him into a full back.

When we were teenagers he was the most talented player I had ever seen and even in an extremely successfully school team full of very good players he was light years ahead of everyone else. Even though he had a long and successful career I always expected him to play for a bigger team and England.
