Yep, wartime stories definitely have an emotional pull. I didn’t cry watching Atonement but it wouldn’t surprise me if many did.

I cried all the ways through The Color Purple when I first saw it. It's one of those that have you laughing and crying at the same time.

Saving Mr Banks, Simon Birch had me weeping too.

Three films already mentioned, It's a Wonderful life, Field of Dreams and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, however it's the part where Indy's Dad thought he has lost him then sees him again makes me feel that there is something in my eye but when Indy's hat rolls back into the scene there is definitely something in both eyes. Suspect that idea was an afterthought but it really completes it.
