Macken from near the halfway line has to be up there. As someone earlier said, Kennedy's for Wolves was really good too

Lee Hughes for West Brom in 2000 also springs to mind (first goal on that vid; though the Goat's winner is worth a watch too – comically scrappy)

Forgot about the Macken goal, it gas to be up there. I remember being absolutely stunned when that went in.

Another vote for Big Cyrille, a combination of dribbling skill to beat 3 or 4 opponents and then a powerful finish from the edge of the box.

I remember standing in the pouring rain at the Scoreboard end against West Ham and big Joe Corrigan fluffed his kick out and Trevor Brooking ( I think )volleyed it straight past him from about 30 yards out. Think we got done 5-1 that day and not a blade of grass on the pitch.

It was actually Ronnie Boyce. Joe didn't really fluff his kick it went nearly up to the half-way line. Boyce volleyed it back, but Joe had turned his back and it sailed over his head into the net (far more than 30 yards). I agree, it was wet and the pitch was just mud. I think Greavsie made his debut for W Ham that day, and scored of course. (It was before Trevor Brooking's time, I fancy).

agree, the media and armchair fans had a wankfeast over it. Way down the pecking order for good overhead kicks and many other goals better to.

Far be it from me to defend the granny shagger but if we are talking about the technical merits of his goal the ball was ultimately struck plumb on his laces, it’s just camera angles that make it appear as though it was a partial ‘shinner’.......Rooney’s goal was a cracker anything other than that acknowledgement makes us seem in denial and bitter. We are better than that.

As for Whelan’s goal....just rewatched it after all these years...fuck me it was a complete fluke! Haha
