Workers' Rights and Covid

Back on topic, everyone needs to know this law, now more so than ever.

Would just add that it's definitely better to get advice before trying to act on section 44, preferably via a union. It's not always easy for an employee to navigate the legal framework on their own. Good thread though and useful information.

Absolutely. But it's definitely worth knowing. I'd also advocate anyone and everyone joining a union.

Completely agree. I haven't been part of one before as my profession isn't traditionally that unionised. Only learned a few years ago that unions exist for people regardless of where they work/their profession. It's something I've been looking into supporting recently though and especially now.

Make sure you're well versed in what constitutes being safe at work:

Unison, GMB and Unite (I’m not sure about the specific teaching unions, but I’m sure they’re in with it too), have said; even though the govt have given the date of 1st June for some year groups in schools returning, do not start planning to return on that date just yet.

They are going to meet with the govt and find out exactly what the govt can assure and what they are going to have in place for the safety of students and staff in the schools and getting to and from the schools, and if they do not meet a high enough standard of safety (see those videos of London buses this morning), the unions may tell their members not to go to work.

This ........ now more than ever , don't forget that the Tories think that you should see your boss before you can see your family.

and if your workplace doesn't have union representation or a specific union (such as teachers) then the GMB will accept you.

@johnnytapia you're going to hate me, but years back, I asked Unison for help and they were utter crap, so I cancelled my membership and donated that money to charity each month.
