And this has always been my issue with hip-hop -- as a vocalist pace-wise, he's unparalleled -- he damn near invented this style. As a lyricist, damn fine though not as talented. But this is music. And as musicians, they were too thin for me. This is what made me fall out of love with hip hop early. Once you couldn't rip shamelessly from everywhere for free the genre changed. It's the music that makes PE special, and the Beastie Boys for that matter, and later even Eminem (sometimes) and Snoop Dog and others. It's the groove and the hooks. At least to me.
