43 is a small rise from last Sunday's all settings total of 36 and last Mondays of 38.

The case numbers up and down again Similar to yesterday from many fewer tests. Though the data on thse tests and how many people were tested to get that figure is not very helpful as ever.

The Sunday reported totals in sequence over recent weeks have been

170, X, 115, 77, 36, now 43. So the slow fall turning into a slight rise stands out.

X = the week in between where they changed the all settings data and added on a load of cases over a number of days spread from the past So it was actually 441 that day which is clearly misleading to include.

Come on mate that's like saying maybe we did just have an extra 55k deaths than usual. Not sure what your original view was on this but try and remain open minded. It's obvious from the evidence coming in the virus was around a lot earlier than first thought which is good news as it means a lot more will have had it and it's even less deadly.

Don't agree at all pal. It's far from "obvious", in fact it's downright implausibly unlikely, to the point I think it's absolutely wrong. Impossible even.

Seems to be a lot of indicators coming out that it may have been, we may never find out. Just seen an interesting article from a frontline Italian specialist suggesting the virus is weakening and patients that would have previously died are recovering ok. Maybe the virus started this way which was why there was 10 X more flu cases at hospitals but then got worse. Here's the article anyway, he thinks a vaccine may not be needed.

Everybody on Facebook now is posting pictures of themselves round their friends house, or posing with friends with their arms round each other. Or saying things like "first time I've seen my mate for so long" or "was lovely getting cuddles off my grandkids for the first time in months today"

I must have missed Boris Johnson's big announcement that social distancing has now been scrapped and you go anywhere and see anyone.

If they "follow the economy science" and reduce "social distancing" to 1 metre, that will be the signal that everything is to go back to normal.
People have flouted the guidance all the way through, but that will be the last straw IMHO.

But, you know, the economy trumps people's lives.

Reducing the social distancing to one metre is madness i think, let's see for a bit longer what the data says about easing lockdown so far, admissions are up since the 5th june last time I looked.Since test target day it is obvious that they are playing about with the numbers to steer it in the political direction they want

Thank god the first wave is under some control,i think they are trying to give the economy a boost before the next wave that I am sure will come along with flu season

New positive cases scoreboard for today:

London + 18, North East + 8, North West + 38 . Low by recent standards. Weekend testing perhaps.

Local new cases: Bolton 2, Bury 2, Manchester 3, Oldham 5, Rochdale 0, Salford 0, Stockport 4, Wigan 1

After being quiet for a while Stockport added more cases than Manchester over last 2 days

Blackpool has quietened right down too adding just 2 cases in the last 6 days.

I have to say I'm amazed that Spain is inviting Brits over for holidays.

Have been very impressed by the Spanish people and government during this period but inviting people over from a country that barely has CV under control is asking for trouble.

The crazy thing is temperature testing when they arrive in Málaga or wherever. It should be done before getting on the plane and putting fellow passengers at risk.
