Wigan Athletic deducted 3 points (P33)

I am guessing that Wigan were just happy they had a buyer , and didn't look at the Chinese company that has ran out of money after 4 weeks of ownership ? Probably more to this than meets the eye , covid 19 being an easy thing to pin the blame on .

I work in the world of finance (and have worked with football clubs) and there are some deals that go down that just never make sense. Even allowing for money laundering or tax evasion or whatever else you can think of they make no sense. When you get involved with buying a club as per the Wigan acquisition you are in for £100k in fees (legal / accounting) as a safe estimate of the minimum, fees over a £1m not unknown. So you are paying a lot to get your feet under the table to have a serious look at the club and completing the deal if you like what you see. It would take you weeks to go through the books so there is a lot of work involved. You also have to convince the seller you have the means to take it on, this can be faked to be honest but why - why go through the process if you are just going to fall flat in a couple of months.

Up to Nine buyers showing an interest? And only want Buyers who have 10m cash ready! Why would anybody by a club in these times and a club like Wigan who have major losses yearly? Unless your a die hard Wigan fan and worth 500m and would invest because of your love for your club, just can’t see anyone buying them.

Who are the owners now after big Dave ( you know the guy with the broken leg) who doesn’t like to mention it every time he’s on tv sold it to. The problem is too many clubs in the north west in close proximity, more will go this way.
Not long ago all four divisions were won by north west clubs in the same season.
The league used to have plenty of room for Bury, Stockport doing well, Oldham and Bolton enjoying seasons at the top level, Chester and Macc getting on ok. It’s the financial model and indeed financial behaviour of some clubs which is the problem, not being located in what is after all a football mad region.

Shirley they could sell this for a tidy profit

Apparently one of those showing interest is HRH SM and he is going to "Buy their club and burn it down".
