Was it stellar business acumen to let the situation deteriorate to such a point where we had to accept £50m for a player worth double that

The contract offer to double his wages has been there the entire time...But the lad wanted De Bruyne money and had his head turned as Bayern were willing to pay him that(he'll be their highest paid player). What would you have done differently?

No.
Headteacher who believed it important kids learnt that every right they enjoy as a worker was fought for over centuries and needed to be preserved against the ****s that tend to run businesses who would work them to death on a race to the bottom given half a chance.
Political views pop up in some strange places in here but l didn't really expect one like yours in a Sane transfer thread.
Given the amounts that this sort of worker expects to earn l assume you are the Head Master of Eton College and l claim my pitiful £5.

Can’t help feeling Bayern have dropped a massive bollock with the reported salary, sounds like it’s gonna be double that of Coman & Gnabry who’ve produced the goods for them already (in wide areas) they’ve already had Coutinho come in for a season & do naff all on massive money....maybe it’s win win and they get a tune out of them/raise their performance, but I reckon it will blow up in their faces & there’ll be more knocks at the door than emu’s pink windmill

Honestly don't know if this is serious or not. Our 'calling their bluff' cost us 60m plus a year of wages. How is that a good thing?
So you are suggesting that we should have rolled-over and accepted?

The 60M loss you quote is speculation and the loss of any proportion of any fee is down to his serious injury and CV19 neither which could have been anticipated. Playing him at Wembley was a sign to bm that hes our player and we use him as we wish yes, it could have been anticipated that he could get injured but the chances of one that stalls a transfer was low There is also no certainty that he would have left anyhow, who knows if we were negotiating or not, maybe bm were always going to wait
