Is that the worst ever newly crowned champions defeat?

Nope. Arsenal beat Forrest 2-1 in the first league game of 98. Just checked.

they also won the charity shield 3-0 prior to that game
They lost 4-0 at Anfield on May 6th 1998, after securing the title on May 3rd by going 7 points clear of the rags, who had 2 games left. They then lost away at Villa meaning they won the league by 1 point.
To be honest though, I’d take losing the next game 4/5-0 after winning the league every season.

Its got to be up there with the worst performance , the Dippers were bobbins tonight and outclassed by a team that plays football not hoofball ,when you think the amount of shite Allardyce got for playing tactics like Klippety, he's a fraud.

Probably not the right thread but philosophically they're actually quite similar in how high pitch turnovers are the route to success for them. Mourinho is like that too.

Of course nobody ever said Allardyce or Mourinho sides played exciting football. Then again neither managed Liverpool.
