With the number still in hospital I think this number will be difficult to get much lower, certainly not in the short term anyway.

True, but the numbers in hospital and the numbers on ICU beds are falling rapidly too as the data I posted over the weekend shows.

N Ireland 0 deaths and 9 new cases. Last week it was 1 death and 6 cases.

So every UK nation has had either 0 or a new low in hospital deaths. I think its also the first time that Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland have all recorded 0 deaths on the same day. Only the 15 from England (a new low in of itself) is the UK total.

Even for Monday reporting of Sunday figures that is a very positive milestone.

The new cases sets a new milestone too. We don't know the England numbers yet. But look at this:-

Wales has 8, Scotland 4 and N. Ireland 9. All three nations in single figures for new cases. 21 in total. The total was 127 for those three nations this time last week - largely due to the Welsh factory outbreaks.

Yes, the Sunday caveat again, but unless something was awry or very low with the testing yesterday that is certainly a big step forward.

Of the 15 deaths they were aged between 42 and 93 and all had known underlying health problems.

An N-95 mask filters out particulate matter larger than .3 microns. So the question then is how big is a COVID particle?

A COVID particle is about .1 micron....this idea of people doing anything particularly useful with a mask is bizarre to me anyway.

It’s not about the size of the covid particle, it’s about the size of the water droplet that it’s sat in.

You’re thoroughly misunderstanding how a mask benefits the R0 across a population.

The good news continues. 16 deaths from all settings. Down again on yesterday. And last Monday.

And just 352 new cases. Lowest yet.

Think we need to get to zero new cases for a few weeks before the winter sets in.

Has any country our size got to zero? Seems a tough task. Especially as the new cases are mostly not going to need hospitalisation. And will often be asymptomatic.

We don't even know how many we had in the weeks before we started testing. That might well not have been zero either.

To live with this virus we don't really need zero just low numbers. As until it is eradicated globally we would always be at risk and cannot seal ourselves off to avoid that. And global eradication is not happening soon.

We are going very clearly now in the right direction. That is good news in the circumstances.

But it will change tomorrow remember. Numbers will rise as the weekend catch up will occur.

So we should be happy but also realistic and wary. Trends matter more at this stage than raw numbers.

Numbers going in the right direction, just hope the recent actions of many i.e. beaches, protests, this weekend etc don't come back to haunt us. If we see sub 100 figure tomorrow that would be another positive.
