It is based in the Piccadilly / Mancunian Way sector of the city centre which is the sector most closely connected to Manchester City.
There was also an announcement about 6 weeks ago which might be relevant to Manchester rail network.
Network Rail will now rapidly start the next stage of work to unblock Manchester’s railways after it was given £10 million in design and development funding. The work will examine options to resolve capacity and reliability problems on the network https://www.gov.uk/government/news/regions-across-england-to-benefit-from-transport-funding-boost.
Additionally work on electrification and expanding the Manchester to Leeds line is in the pipeline.

Sadly my guess is that park will be a red light and hard drugs no-go zone within weeks of opening, some of the roughest and most desperate street prostitution in Manchester congregates around Fairfield St and Travis/Adair Streetscould all have been done and built whilst we were in lockdown...

Isn't that something Andy Burnham should be taking up with whichever fuckwit is now responsible (Shapps I believe)? According to Wiki, the national rail part is the only bit he (Burnham) doesn't have direct responsibility for.The Network Rail bit is a farce - they spent a fortune linking Piccadilly and Victoria but Grayling refused to sign off the extension of through platforms at Piccadilly - so the link to Victoria is a white elephant. Grayling asked NR to look at other options which they did - and there were nonE - so Grayling just ignored them and the plans are still with the MoT - and the result is the chaos we saw last year. The only net result of this is that the works will cost considerably more than when first agreed and consulted on.... How not to run a railway....
