COVID-19 — Coronavirus

England as of today there are just 769 patients in hospital in England with Covid. That is 40 less than yesterday. It was 886 this time last weekend. Two weeks ago it was 1190. Three weeks ago today it was 1477.

As you can see there is no sign yet of any rise here. The new cases still seem to not be needing hospitalisation which I guess is good news.

Same applies to ICU ventilator beds. If you recall yesterday the England number rose for first time in a while from 71 to 74

Today it fell by 6 to just 68. Again for context last Sunday it was 81, two weeks ago 119 and three weeks ago today 139.

This can only be seen as good news as it is a major fall in 21 days.

Hope our local politicians can get their act together and emphasise these things to those who have driven this. It should be a source of pride to tackle the problem. Not sure it will be.

For context the last 2 Sunday NW totals were 127 a fortnight ago and 164 last week.

Sadly, Liverpool seems to have a much more committed approach to supressing local out breaks compared to Manchester, including volunteers visiting people in affected streets / raids and warning them of the dangers.

So there appear to be (from latest figures on and off Beta) 82 people in the UK on ICU ventilators today. And 1153 patients in UK hospitals with Covid.

That number could even go below 1000 in the next week.

For context again the UK totals were

ICU ventilator patients now 82 - this time last week 92, the week before 131 and the week before 159

And Covid patients in UK hospitals now 1153 - this time last week 1286, the week before 1613 and the week before 1950.

@Healdplace brilliant as always. I wonder if the government has the data on the age groups of these new infections, is it the 18 - 25 range or spread throughout. Where are people picking up the infections, it would be useful to know where, who and how.

As for NW hospital data where we need to track to see if the wave here becomes admissions and/or ICU patients the data shows no sign as yet Though its early days still for people to get really sick.

As of today numbers in NW hospitals fell for the fourth straight day.

Today there are just 180 patients with Covid in NW hospitals (fewer than we had new cases today).

Last Sunday that number was 218, the week before that 222 and three weeks ago it was 290.

So the reduction has speeded up over the past week from the week before last.

AS for ICU ventilator patients in the NW

Today there are 15 (that is 2 up on Friday). Last Sunday there were 18, the week before that 19 and three weeks ago 20.

Less of a fall but still is a fall over the three weeks of 25%.

I would hope someone has but as of yet its not anywhere obvious. But there have been several references by politicians when giving the data to the numbers of young people who are testing positive being high enough to be mentioned. The Stockport outbreak - for instance - was said to have been driven by people age 18 to 30.

And there are a number of cases around the UK of multiple (mostly younger) people testing positive after incidents in pubs - some of whom did not seem to be following the rules on distancing. I seem to recall one having ignored all the number rules as they argued they could not stay open otherwise. They ended up having to close so it was not a wise move.

Some sense and perspective will hopefully emerge.

This really makes sense of how and why case numbers might be rising but deaths and hospitalisations are not. If the young and (relatively speaking) ones less likely to become seriously ill are driving up numbers but the ones most at risk are staying out of this.

Indeed a number of surveys over the past week seem to imply most who are being told to end shielding as of yesterday are not going to do so as they are still too afraid to go out.

Hopefully the test ,track and trace system will suppress the spread.

The BBC reports todays news as cases are steadily rising and on average 56 people a day are dying. And implies only England are giving out the true death numbers as other nations only class it as a Covid death if they had a positive test within the 28 days before they died.

These might be literally true but as I said it is doing what they did with CAS and City. Look for bad news and ignore anything positive.

Balance is always suppressed by agenda these days.

GM scoreboard. Bad news for quite a few towns.

Bolton 9 (up from 6) 217 over the month - 54 over past week - 26 over past 3 days. Joined the 700 club. Pop score 701.5

Bury 14 (major shock - up from 1 to new record high of nearly double anything seen for one of our bright spots) 95 over past month - 34 in past week despite having two 0 cases days. Pop score shot up to 713.3 Must be a specific outbreak here somewhere. Hope they found it.

Manchester 19 (down from 37 so better news as half) 490 over the month - 190 over past week - 90 over past 3 days. Pop score 607.2

Oldham 25 (doubled from 13) 348 over the month - 141 over past week - 57 over past 3 days. Pop score 916.3 (will be first GM town to go over 1000 if not turned around fast)

Rochdale 12 (doubled from 6 and highest in a while for here) - 354 over the month - 63 over past week (still much better than Oldham) - 28 over past 3 days, Pop score 855.5

Salford 18 (record high for here up from 9) 183 over the month - 63 over past week - 34 of them in past 3 days. Pop score as only 500 club in GM - though not for long if this keeps up - 581.7

Stockport 15 (third new high in past 9 days and second on bounce up from 13 - big problems here) 150 over month (there were 38 in the first half of that month!) 71 in past week - 35 in past 3 days. Broke into 600 club at 604.2.

Tameside 13 (down from 15) 142 over past month - 60 in past week - 39 in past 3 days - like neighbour Stockport in trouble. Pop score 727.4

Trafford 7 (down from 12) 84 over past week - 30 in past 3 days. Pop score 611.3

Wigan 2 (down from 3 and does not deserve to be in lockdown) 75 over past month way clear as lowest in GM. 17 over past week - again light years ahead of the rest. Pop score 669.8

Do you reckon Wigan is in lockdown cos Mr Burnham lives here in the borough (Leigh) and doesn't want any political issues ?. Not really fair for a lot of people here but the only family I go and see is just over the border in Salford (Walkden).
