COVID-19 — Coronavirus

NW scoreboard coming up is more grim reading - especially if you live in Stockport - which is really now fulfilling my worst fears from a week ago.

Bolton 8 (down from 9) 225 over past month - 57 over past week - 23 over past 3 days. Pop score 704.3

Bury 3 (way down from 14) 98 over past month - 30 over past week - 18 over past 3 days Pop score 714.9

Manchester 29 (up from 19) 519 over past month - 196 over past week (new record) - 85 over past 3 days. Pop score 612.5

Oldham 20 (down from 25) 368 over past month - 143 over past week - 58 over past 3 days. Pop score 924.8

Rochdale 15 (up from 12) 369 over past month - 67 over past week - 33 over past 3 days. Pop score 862.3

Salford 12 (down from 18) 127 over past month - 73 over past week - 39 over past 3 days. Pop score 586.5

Stockport 19 (up from 15 and third successive day it has set a new local record) - 169 over past month (it was under 69 for most of that month!) 78 over past week (triple any other past week) - 47 over past 3 days - almost as bad as Oldham, Stockport has escalated so far and so fast it is now in big trouble. May need more measures if this goes on. Pop score 610.7

Tameside 5 (down from 13 and going in right direction unlike Stockport) 147 over past month - 60 over past week - 33 over past 3 days. Pop score 729.6

Trafford 5 (down from 7 and well down on last week again heading in right direction) - 80 over past week - 24 over past 3 days. Pop score 613.4

Wigan 7 (up from 2, bit of an uptick for our star performer) 82 over past month (by a mile still best in GM) - 22 over past week - 12 over past 3 days (high by its standards). Pop score 671.9

May have to stop updating the pop score as today is the last day of the old Gov data site. The new one running as Beta takes over tomorrow but as of now seem to have omitted the pop score for both countries/regions and local authorities. So they may have given up as most people struggle to understand it. And judge more of raw numbers not relative ratings across the UK.

I think there has been an outbreak at Stepping Hill hospital amongst staff and a couple of pubs had an outbreak, so I wonder if that is the reason for Stockport being a problem. Very concerning though and can only see it getting worse over the next few days unless it's contained. Surely though the council has postcode data and should, in theory, be able to nip it in the bud

So with all these new cases are we expecting a big increase in deaths in the next month? Because numbers a still lowish.

Thanks for the info on Stepping Hill - that is worrying. Hope they are on top of it.

Just showing how quickly these cases can replicate if not stopped early.

The Aberdeen bar outbreak has twice as many cases linked to it just 24 hours on.

This is why you cannot wait and see in these situations. They can escalate out of control as you watch.

We did discuss this earlier It did not happen in Leicester Neither hospital admissions nor deaths have risen there. They carried on falling.

I update the NHS hospital data daily. Stay tuned.

Ah right thanks so maybe the virus isn’t as sting plus the new medication probably prevents the virus from getting to bad.

NHS hospital data for Scotland given earlier with the report from Nicola Sturgeon.

N Ireland no update from Friday as yet. But was 1 in ICU and 3 patients in hospital all across the country so not much change likely.

Wales not updated from Friday either at 116 in hospital and 10 in ICU (both down from day before)

England just 13 patients went into hospital on Saturday (latest data) As of today only two people fewer are in hospital than yesterday but it has fallen to 767. Last Monday it was 864. The previous Monday 1162.

Patients on ICU ventilator beds fell by 1 in England from 68 yesterday to 67 today. It was 83 last Monday and 112 the Monday before.

So that is 1141 in hospital with Covid on latest figures I have across UK and 81 on ICU ventilator beds across the four nations.

Still no sign of these doing anything but falling on both fronts.

Piece in the MUEN other day saying some patients and staff had tested positive and they were undergoing rapid testing of all staff over a five day period. I wonder if the sharp rise is linked to this.
‘The rapid testing programme was implemented at Stepping Hill Hospital on Friday (July 31) and will see all staff tested for coronavirus in the next five days’.
