COVID-19 restrictions will stay in force in Bolton and Trafford - after another U-turn by the government which was due to lift local lockdowns but faced demands from councils to keep them in place. Both local councils cited increases in coronavirus infections, with the controlling Labour group on Trafford Council asking for restrictions to remain in place for another week or two "in the interests of public safety".

The hospital data is clearer today.

N Ireland 20 patients (-2). Vent 3 (+1)

Wales 43 (+1) Vent 14 - was 10 yesterday and 3 four days ago.

Scotland 258 (-1) Vent 5 (-1)

England 425 (-47). Vent 59 (same).

So that is 746 in hospital (a fall of 49 in day) but 81 on ventilators the highest in some weeks.

For comparison this time last week the numbers were 761 in hospital and 64 on ventilators.

So patients rose quite a bit but had a decent fall today and are just below where they were week on week.

Good news.

But te ventilator situation has got worse everywhere with increases across the board and a rise from 64 to 81 in a week after months of steady falls.

It is over a month since ventilator bed occupancy was higher than now.

Corby and Kettering in Northamptonshire are both bad , been announced they are the 3rd and 10th highest infection rates in the country based on last weeks figures .

I posted the list this morning if you look back a couple of pages to see howthey rate v NW towns on the measure they use for that list.

the numbers helpfully posted by heald place do not support that public safety assertion?

just another example of a weak as piss government

Finally the regional hospital picture.

Patients in yesterday v today and ventillator beds the same.

East 28 v 28
vent 3 v 3

South East 33 v 33
vent 4 v 4

South West 13 v 11 (down 2)
Vent 2 v 2

London 82 v 76 (down 6)
Vent 14 v 13 (down 1)

Midlands 121 v 84 (down 37)
Vent 10 v 9 (down 1).

Yorkshire 78 v 81 (up 3)
vent 9 v 11 (up 2).

North West 117 v 112 (down 5)
vent 17/17

So small drop on patient numbers in NW but well up on the sub 100 here up to late last week. Biggest patient number fall in the Midlands making the NW the highest again.

And the NW has the most ventilated patients at 17.

Of 156 new infections in Scotland today,

9 are in people older than 65, the highest number for some time I think

116 in 20-64 year olds

31 in people younger than 20, including 2 children aged 0-4

I wonder how they are discovering these 0-4 year olds and if they show any symptoms.

Not one for stats, but the rise in cases here in British Columbia as young'ens are gathering more, and as well as others, complacency is getting worse. It's good that most big stores are going for mandatory masks now.
But what the hell is going on in the states? Specifically our friends just south of the border in Washington State?
They only have 1.5 x the population of B.C. yet their number of cases and deaths are about 11x worse.

So Scouser Burnham gets his way and Trafford remains in lockdown. Maybe that’s the right call but I’m not sure. No mention by Labour that the parts of Trafford with higher cases are more integrated with Central Manchester, being adjacent to Hulme and Moss Side. Maybe the politics comes before track and trace. Anyway, the decision has been made.
