I guess it depends what he was detained for, at that time of night it could be drink/drug driving for example, would someone like that who didn't resist be routinely searched?

Absolutely heartbreaking, to wake up to this, this Morning is really odd as I actually messaged my police officer friend last night to say how good they had been for me yesterday as my work van was broken into, couldn't have been more efficient and helpful.
