Was one of the most exciting signings we've ever made. He put thousands on the gate receipts as fans eagerly went to see him play. Was short lived. We signed him for 1.2m from Forest which was a big fee back then. He was carrying an injury IIRC, and Francis was soon became a huge letdown we could I'll afford to pay a reported 100k per week, which was absolutely bonkers 39 years or so ago. Sold to Sampdoria at a considerable loss which was no surprise in those days.

I stand corrected, well spotted. Still a huge amount back then though. I think Francis was on a basic 100k salary plus win bonuses. Swales frittered the money frivolously back then. Suppose he could when he was fiddling the turnstile clicks every home game we had a big crowd.
