Ake is a centre back.
Kompany was a midfielder when we bought him. Mascherano was a midfielder when Barca bought him. Both became great defenders. Some players can adapt.

Its a lot easier to convert a midfielder to defender than the other way round

He was originally a defensive midfielder and had played as an emergency centre back
Take him out of the team and we are back to square one with a lack of height and physical presence in midfield.
I've never watched Rodri play and thought we have a physical presence in the middle of the pitch. Maybe that's harsh but he's nowhere near Ferna or Fabinho imo.

If that's the top and bottom of what rodri can bring the team (and it's not far off), we shoulda got Liam delap on the blower to his dad. Would have saved us 65 million quid and might actually be some use

He can pass as well and has a decent shot on him as well. The only problem is he doesn't run around like a lunatic

Not sure if intentional or not but did you suggest turning rodri into a CB?
You can just foresee us spending hundreds of millions to essentially weaken our team. Mendy isn't better than Clichy or Kolarov, Rodri isn't better than Dinho, I don't imagine Dias will be better than Vinnie and I sincerely doubt the striker we sign will be close to Aguero.
We're just getting weaker and weaker as a team. We seem to have prioritised this 65m cap instead of spending a little more on a player to get the quality we actually need.
Spending big isnt always the answer.
It's just that nor are we scouting hidden gems that then become excellent players.
Nor does it seem that we have been scouting players that actually fit the system or the fast pace of this league.
