Bands you wished you'd seen and bands you did see

During lockdown, like many other have no doubt, I sorted a ton of crap I'd collected over the years and came across old tour programmes and tickets, this is the oldest I found. It prompted me to list the gigs I'd gone to, worked at or took my little sister. I'm still working on it..

I've kept most of my concert tickets and one of my first lockdown projects was logging all my gigs on setlist.fm. Still a few headliners missing. I only really bothered with support acts if someone had already added them.

I still play Max Webster: got most of their stuff on cd now.

Stray were support on Rush's first UK tour.
Saw them support Kiss on their first tour here too.
Funnily, fast forward to 1996, and through a mate in Milton Keynes, I became mates with their mainman Del Bromham. A lovely guy with some fantastic tales ...

Yes I obviously saw that gig too.

They were around for plenty of years so I imagine they would have had some experiences.

Had to be done, this is a list of acts I've seen. It isn't complete but I think it has most of the headliners I've seen plus some support acts and bands I've seen at festivals. Not all of the acts were my choice to see: some were those of my wife and daughters and as mentioned, some were on the bill of artists that I did want to see.

That’s one hell of a list, OB1.

Seen a handful of those and some of them are my favourite gigs.

Bruce Springsteen (Bramhall Lane 88 and Etihad 2012j
INXS (several times on the X tour and bizarrely when they played The Academy on their small venues tour in 1993).
Crowded House several times - they always put on a good show.
Mellencamp NEC in 1992
Bryan Adams quite a few times - mostly on his Into The Fire tour (his last decent album IMO)
Bon Jovi at the NEC, when they were bettered by their support act, Dan Reed Network.
Steve Earle and The Dukes a few times.

When I saw Bruce Hornsby at the Apollo in 1988, I was one of the 10 or 12 people lucky enough to be invited on stage to sing parts of The Valley Road. As I was making my way off the stage, I reached out, shook his hand and said “nice concert, Bruce!”

I still play Max Webster: got most of their stuff on cd now.

Stray were support on Rush's first UK tour.
Never made the early RUSH tours, wasn’t old enough. First time was in 1980. Didn’t miss any after that and made trips to the US or Canada for several gigs.

Stray and Andy Dunkley supported the 1977 tour, Tyla Gang on the 1978 tour, Max Webster in ’79 on the Hemispheres dates, and Wild Horses for the two gigs at Bingley Hall later in ’79. Quartz in 1980, No support in ’81, ’83 and ’88, Primus in ’92. No support after that.

Probably seen everyone I’ve wanted to see:

Ones I didn’t and wish I had:

Led Zeppelin (missed Knebworth in '79, would have been too young to see them earlier)
Frank Sinatra (in 1992, just to see if he was a great as they say)

Ones I've seen but missed an earlier version:

AC/DC (with Bon Scott)
Genesis (in '77)
Kate Bush (first tour)

Which Bon Jovi tour was that mate? Wasn’t the New Jersey tour December 88 was it? If so, I recall at the NEC the headliners put on a great show.
