England hospital deaths wk to wk:

The big number in the NW driven as a legacy of the Christmas problems on Merseyside.

Hopefully finally behind us. Hence the large week to week drop after two small drops.

Atop the other new data I mentioned earlier today showing the 12 week lag in two doses makes a huge beneficial difference and long lasting anti bodies this is a very good day for AZ and a day of shame for those who rubbished it, caused people to hesitate or insist on waiting for the better one and who as a consequence in some cases may have paid dearly for doing so.
 
Northern Ireland data:

2 deaths - was 2 last week

166 cases - was 241 last week

8.8% positive - was 11.3% last week

Rolling 7 day cases total 1226 - was 1305 yesterday and 1797 last week.

Care home outbreaks 18 - down from 20 yesterday and 28 last week.

Patients 242 - down 15 on yesterday - was 335 last week

Ventilated 27 - same as yesterday - was 29 last week.



Another set of good data from around the UK.

No doubt I'll get shouted down despite not remotely being an anti vaxxer / conspiracist / covidiot (delete as appropriate) but it surely must be obvious to everyone by now that the whole 'killer mutant variant' narrative was peddled to scare people and try and get them to comply with the government's decrees. I'm not commenting on the validity of that strategy but it does beg some questions that will need answering in due course and was captured quite well in these articles both from the telegraph, particularly ethical question of intentionally aggressively terrifying members of society to the point where they drive indivduals to despair

The Government's campaign to terrify people into compliance with Covid rules was shameless and cruel

Did anyone involved in the Government's campaign of Covid terror ask whether it was ethical to drive millions to despair?

This has been a regular communication strategy from the start and it's probably run its course a little bit as people get fatigued of 'killer variants' being rolled out at times which always seem to match coincidentally with the government seeking to 'manage behaviour' eg to justify lockdown 3 (again, not commenting on the validity of that stragegy, just that it's probably passed its sell by date and creates issues of compliance down the line when the terror never appears, the vaccinces are effective and sows distrust in the credibility of comms. We've all seen the headlines - 'mutant variant COULD escape vaccines / MAY be more dangerous etc etc' but all spun one way intentionally with little attention paid to those scientists that told everyone to stop flapping at the time.

It's clear vaccines are the way out and hopefully a POSITIVE campaign of education and encouragement will see uptake reach high levels and get the world back to normality where people can look forward to the future.
