I say that about the champions league It should be for the team that wins their respective league, you could finish 30 points of the leader in 4th place and win it, just a money making shit competition to line euefa’s pockets. Spurs a typical example got to the final now if they’d have won it everyone would have said yes they’ve won it but they didn’t even win their own league shite
Nor did Littlewoods that year, nor the season before.

The City thread on rag cafe is a joy to behold playing down Pep’s achievements because of the money spent. I would imagine the same posters are upset that the Glazers should be spending even more money on United to add to the billion quid spent to win the Europa League.
United’s team from around 1989-90, that had gone nearly a quarter of a century without winning the league, and had only won three FA Cups in that period without a league title; that went on to win the FA Cup, European Cup Winners Cup and eventually the Premier League; was the most expensive football team ever assembled in this country.

It was all about money money money!

And they were hammered 5-1 by a newly-promoted team, whose most expensive signing was a £1 million striker, who didn’t even play in that match, and contained five youth team products.

Indeed and they alongside 5 other clubs pushed for a Premier league and moving live football to paid for subscriptions on Sky. The 6 teams also managed to cut themselves a bigger share of the tv money compared to the other 14 teams who were founder members of the premier league to give themselves a bigger advantage.

I wonder if it would have remained as the old Barclays league division one and football being free or air, would the rags have had all that success? We were finishing higher than them with Howard Kendall in charge.

They purposely understate what they've spent, when confronted with hard facts, it's " well we've earned it and have the right to spend more ". FFS !

Hello mate, I would really like to read about the spending history of the clubs in the english league's history. For example the revenues they had, spending etc..Any reliable place for these kind of information? Anyone sharing would be much appreciated!

Listening to KDB's fantastic interview today. He was asked about the reason for signing his new contract and he said the main factor was the club's long-term strategy on and off the field which had convinced him. He added that "City had put things in place for the next 50 years." He elaborated a bit saying everything off the field was great, from the Academy to the women's team and what had been invested in the local area. That must send a shudder down the spine of United fans.
