All these 'informed' people yesterday flagging Sterling up as being offered as a potential Kane makeweight...

Indeed, if they had such intimate knowledge of the Kane offer, it would be a huge story in itself that Sterling was being shown the door by us, certainly not confined to 14 characters on Twitter, burying the fucking lead.

Throwing his name into the pot yesterday evidenced a wider zero knowledge, outside of the public knowledge of his unhappiness at not playing every week for City, the delayed contract talks.

People like Romano and others don't have the bottle to write Sterling's situation because they don't fucking know it - because they don't have any contacts at City.

They won't write Sterling is leaving, Sterling is quitting, Sterling is signing a new deal - a definitive statement - because it then leaves them immediately open to scrutiny and being exposed for the chancers they are.

Here's one - Sterling has told people he is not leaving City this summer.
Good post. This whole "leak" doesn't hang together at all. I cannot see City making a bid like that either, "offering" players like that. For a start there is no way that any of those players would fancy Spurs. Also, why would City show their hand like that?

I look forward to reading this again tomorrow either on Twitter or in the press from an “unknown source” : )

Exactly. Romano isn't smart, but then yesterday showed up others for being equally complicit in giving his 2+2 erroneous Tweet the mileage he craved for it.

Sky doesn't care, that's the truth of it, they simply add undeserved legitimacy from an outlet that, without screening games, would have zero football insight.

We can certainly speculate, as has already been done in the wider media and on here. The likes of Sterling, Laporte and Jesus, all have big personal decisions to make, simply based on their desired playing time, the contractual rundown, as in Raheem's case.

However, Romano's stuff can easily be dismissed as a flyer and nothing more.

The three players he insisted were being offered as makeweights have not been spoken to by City regarding their futures, having joined up with their national teams immediately after the Champions League final.

City certainly aren't offering players up to Spurs when, as you say, the likelihood is those three would not even entertain such a step down, without establishing first if they even want to leave this summer.

That's amateur hour - you can't offer something you don't know you have - and it's not how any club works - never mind one such as City.

Why would Sterling, who already earns £300k a week (£60k a week more than Spurs' highest earner Kane) suddenly indicate to City it would be cool for us to introduce his name into our offer?

Forget the fact Spurs are shit, haven't won a trophy for 13 years (a League Cup), don't have a manager, are in the Europa League Conference next season...

Spurs can't afford to pay Sterling what he earns now and they are trying to manage debts, not add to their outgoings.

Sterling can sit tight for another two years on £300k a week and still collect trophies at City if he so wishes.

Even if we had offered them the pick of three players and they chose one who agreed to the move, how would the other two feel? We'd have no choice but to sell them as well.

Sort of the thing that might work in Football Manager but not in the real world, with real individuals with egos, feelings, desires, demands and an urge not to pay for a team which can only offer a cheese room.

Nonsense when it's on Twitter, but you then get organisations that will pretend to be serious making out that it's official.

Picture the scene...

Raheem Sterling, still worth £75m in this market, with two years left on his deal at City worth £300k a week.

City, without his knowledge, are offering him up as a makeweight for Kane ON TOP OF £100m - which pushes it beyond Levy's insisted £150m price tag.

We're generous like that you see?

And to further set the seal, because money is supposedly no object at City, we are going to tell Raheem he must go to Spurs and that we are going to pay up his remaining two years at £28.8m.

Sounds legit.

Even the list of players in itself was bollocks? Sterling, Jesus, Laporte all wouldnt sign for Spurs and Bernardo was on the list who hates living in the UK?

Sterling saying he isn’t leaving isn’t even news though right ? He actually came out and said that which makes other comments totally redundant (unless you’re a total hack hoping people don’t remember these clear statements as it makes for an interesting narrative)

That's all I'm trying to do, pick apart the original 'exclusive' by Romano and the subsequent cowards who decided to run with it also.

You can flip it the other way. We offer Raheem, Spurs say we will do the deal if it includes him, and Raheem tells us, 'Nah, I ain't go there'.

Does anyone really believe City would operate in such a way that they make this offer without having a firm idea that Sterling would want his name in the equation?

City's business for Kane won't be predicated on us perhaps wanting to move certain players on, yet hoping for the best those surplus to requirements are on the same page.

I'll come back to my original question, does anybody with an ounce of common sense believe Raheem has allowed City to propose his name to Spurs, irrespective of whether we are contemplating a sale this summer?

Raheem Sterling isn't leaving for anywhere this summer unless he hits the jackpot and one of the big three in Spain are suddenly winning El Gordo.

City might not like it, as they would obviously want to avoid him running down his deal, but we are in no position to dictate his sale, never mind propose him to the third best team in London, about to lose their star man to the Premier League champions.

Sterling isn't daft, he will be speaking to Kane, he has no intention of leaving this summer.

Great post. A bit of common sense at last!
