Transfer Strategy

Posted this in the Ronaldo thread but it makes more sense in here

I can see both sides to the arguments for those who wanted him and didn’t want him

unfortunately we look like complete idiots for not getting ANY striker this season when everyone else around us has improved. Many talk about how only the prem matters, but then Chelsea are now better then us. If any of the games we have lost in the past few years have shown us anything it’s that we need someone to put the ball in the net when the rest of the team is having an off day. Ronaldo could have solved that, hell messi could have as well and he was a free. It is most definitely a huge disappointment to not add either of those two when they wanted to play here. It’s not like we signed a young striker that has a lot of promise like haaland or even vlahovic. We’ve come away with no one to put the ball in the net

Doesn't really matter whether you wanted him or not. I didn't really want Kane, but I was pretty disappointed the club cluldnt pull off their no.1 and at times seemingly only striker target. I didn't particularly want Ronaldo either, till it became a real possibility put in front of us, and all it would have taken was to meet Juve's quite low price. Fannying about tryong to be clever about it allowed utd to come in with and offer and pay the same fee quickly. Would have wanted Messi but the club jut didn't react to that to try it. Whether you wanted a player or not, hard to argue the club didnt fluff their lines here. We knew we needed a striker/goal scoree for so long. And we go into the season without one.

Unpalatable as this might be … we arent buying players from the total top tier of players just yet.
we can get players just below that level like KDB , Dias, and turn them into worldies but the haalands , messi’s, ronaldos, mbappes are still out of our reach.

and this is still even more unpalatable, they arent out of uniteds.

when players are multi millionaires anyway, they will choose european cup champions, clubs with years of successful history and ‘hollywood’ behind them.

itll come for us, just not quite yet.

winning the champs league wouldve helped for sure

PSG hardly has years of hollywood behind them!

Chelsea won the Champions League and then splurged on Lukaku, so it can be done without marquee signings. We’re not going to break from our policy- don’t actually think we should, but that raises questions about why we’re even wasting time waiting for doors to come ajar.

Rivals have strengthened massively whilst we have stood still.. Let Aguero leave on a free without a replacement lined up. Not improved LB and probably be firing one we paid 50mil for. Our midfield is weak and can be easily overun on the counter. Players want to leave but they are still going to be here when the window closes... Our transfer startergy has been late reactionary for a while now. Constantly miss out on our top targets and overpay for our secondary ones. Awful awful window.

And the management knew this last autumn. They knew they weren’t going to renew with Aguero and they must have known that problems were looming with Mendy.

Maybe we can blame the shortage of HGV drivers for our empty shelves?
