I think I'm right in saying that it is against regulations simply to increase the wages of a player under contract, unless the contract stipulates increases. You have to vary the contract in some way to justify the change. So if we decided to up his wages for fairness, easiest way is just add a year, bingo new contract.

Full details of payments, bonuses and any payments in kind need to be in the contract, nothing to stop them upping the wages at any time though without adding to the length.
