Southampton (H) | Post Match Thread

Usually we moan about not taking our chances but the worst thing is we created fuck all, very unlike us.

strange. We didn’t score against Southampton or Spurs. It’s almost like there was an attacking player in both of these matches who passes to the other team, runs down blind alleys or trips over his own feet at almost every opportunity.

Sort it out Raz.

Of course, he wasn’t the only bad player today, but fucking hell, for a ‘world class’ forward he doesn’t half lose the ball a lot.

He was no where near the worst.. the worst starts and finished with our midfield duo. Absolutely shocking, ponderous, lethargic, mistake ridden, sleepwalking shambles.

For anyone that didn’t see the game I’ll sum up.
First half Dias pass to Ake, Ake pass to Ederson, Ederson pass to Dias and so on while all the midfield stood up top watching and waiting for a miracle.
Second half not much changed apart from a lot of sideways passing, apart from when we decided to play it forward, usually to a Southampton player.
That has to be one of the laziest half arsed performances I’ve seen under Pep.
We could have played with 3 strikers today and it wouldn’t have made a difference, midfield totally detached from the back 4.
Can’t believe I’ve payed to watch that shite today.
Thought we were out worked from start to 90 minutes, we then tried for 3 or 4 minutes.
Annoyed doesn’t quite cut it.

Whenever I read a post match thread of a match we didn’t win I then can’t get Mike Skinner’s Streets lyrics out of my head. Bollocks to it, could’ve been worse. Big games coming up in a long season, time for a beer.

Another 1. I'll ask again, what did Southampton do to deserve more than a point? What goal saving saves did Ederson make or what defensive blocks did any of our players have to make?
Exactly this, Southampton tried a couple of smash and grabs after mostly running the clock down on the ball but blew themselves out by the time they got near to the goal. Trying to outpace the likes of Walker down the right wing will do that to you. That's why they kept going down with cramp after each attack in the second half.

They would also try and turn and shoot faster than they could set their feet to get any leverage on their shots. Those shots were on target but they were powderpuff for a reason and never had any hope of going in. If the aim of the game was to poke it past a defender, on target but aimlessly with no pace/power, to give the opposition keeper some catching practice, they might have a point. If that was our players doing that though, the same people would only see that as a waste of possession.

No way can Southampton feel unlucky to "only" come away with a point, they got what they set out for and deserved no more.

He was top class. He’s still a model pro.. but he is so very and clearly past it unfortunately. He’s old.
Fernandinho is probably a very good impact sub to bring on to close games down. A full 90 minutes may be getting too much for him now.
But hey let’s respect the man. One of City’s best ever signings in my humble opinion and we should show respect towards him.
