RIP: Wing Commander John Bell MBE, DFC, Legion d’Honneur, the last British wartime aircrew member of 617 Squadron.

Too tall for a pilot, so he trained as an observer and a bomb aimer, serving initially with No. 619 Sqn and then No. 617 Sqn, John was a veteran of 50 operations over enemy territory. He passed away on Monday, one week before his 101st birthday. Thank you for your service.
