Fuck me, that's a shock and shame. I remember him more for his Black Grape stuff than him being a member of Paris Angels. He was amazing on that first Black Grape album![]()

Wags brother was buried two days ago and his daughter and mother within the last two years, all the finest of human beings. That’s 3 members of the band that have passed away :(
Blimey - that’s some hand to be dealt with :(Wags brother was buried two days ago and his daughter and mother within the last two years, all the finest of human beings.
‘Shall we take a trip’ was a great tune. All true but I felt they were a bit of a parody act, trying to cash in on the coattails of the Roses, Mondays, Inspirals etc. Fair fucks to them though, why not? Got on cover of NME, played to some decent sized audiences. But IMHO, distinctly 3rd tier stuff compared to some of their masterful peers.
The drummer was Simon Worrall.Met them after a gig in Colne in 1991. Wags was a really sound lad and a City fan along with the drummer, whose names escapes me. Think we’d lost to Wednesday 1-0 at home that day. Didn’t know the Toity had passed last year. I remember having a good chat with him about ACR at the same gig and him tipping me off about ED209. Late 80’s acid house dance track from 1988, for those who don’t know it.
Perfume and Scope are 2 of the finest singles to come out of Manchester.
Cracking guitarist.
His work on the Sundew lp is right up there.
His work on the intro to Perfume (45 seconds onwards) is one of the purest musical moments of the Madchester genre.
RIP.
A few of the lads I go city with used know him . Denton lad who used to go on the coaches to the games with them .The drummer was Simon Worrall.

I think Paul Wagstaff was a Denton lad as well. They used to rehearse in a pub called the Birch in Guide Bridge which has sadly gone. Also the video for perfume was filmed in Guide Bridge theatre .
RIP Wags

So many pubs in the area are no longer. Didn't know about the Perfume video. I've never been in GB Theatre despite living in the area for fifty years.
