I’d be happy to keep Ederson but not as number 2. I don’t think Trafford is ready yet but may well be by the time Ederson leaves at the end of this season.

If Ederson has to go then I’m fine with Donarumma.

Trafford is pretty much the same age as Ederson when he came. Ederson had played 30 odd games in Portugal and was deemed ready. Trafford has come through our academy, had a years experience in the prem, been a number 1 for four years and we deem him not ready? If he isn't ready now he never will be. All off the back of making a mistake Ederson has made several times since being here.

Worth pointing out that we looked at Ederson when he was 22/23 (His birthday is in the summer window) and decided he wasn't ready because he'd only been Benfica's #1 for about 4 months, so got Bravo. A year later we got 23/24 year old Ederson after he'd played another full season as Benfica's #1 including a great CL campaign.

Trafford is a bit over a year younger, but that 1 year made a massive difference in Ederson's case between being deemed not ready, and going straight in as our first choice.

Ederson staying and making a decision on Trafford for number 1 next summer would still be my ideal outcome.

So we deemed him ready after a further 27 games? Off the back of 10 games, so 37 league first team matches in total? But Trafford at 150 or so league games as a number one, one season in the prem isn't ready?

Ederson became Benfica's #1 in March 2016.

We were linked with him heavily that summer, but decided he wasn't ready after playing just 18 games for them (81 games in his career)

Then he played an entire season as Benfica's #1, was a year older, had 16 months experience instead of 4, and had played 3x as many games for Benfica.

I think Trafford is ready, just needs some time to settle and a back line that's not all over the place, so this whole counting up the number of games he's played and screaming why isn't he ready doesn't do much for me I'm afraid.

You do know every situation is different and players all develop differently at different speeds ?

Yeah I do but if off the back of that many first team starts, coming from our Academy and a full year experience in the prem. Traff wont ever be ready if people think he isn't now.

No point in keeping Ederson for another year because he has a contract until then, if his head is elsewhere . A fully committed Eddie is another thing though .

According to the Gala president’s comments in the press today, they’ll only pay big fees for players with resale value. They just spent £26m on Singo from Monaco, Osimhen(26) was their other major buy, and Sané came in as a free. The names mentioned for a £20m+ outlay are Donnarumma(26), Restes(20) or Lammens(23). City were basically waiting on Gala to take Ederson so they could move for Donnarumma, but Gala refused to meet the high fee. Instead, they’re shifting focus away from a 32-year-old Ederson towards Donnarumma and younger, high-potential options like Restes and Lammens.

It was on ESPN that they had bid £3 million so, if they are correct, it’s no wonder City think another club may bid more. As for Donnarumma going to them they are dreaming I would think but stranger things have happened.

Sounding like, unless City have another bidder, Ederson stays…..unfortunate for Ederson and Donnarumma but these things happen. Most transfers are about timing. I’m surprised this wasn’t sorted out earlier if City knew of Gala’s stance.

Id argue being Benfica's number one, playing in the CL etc is more valuable than Trafford's time at Bolton and Burnley.

I don’t know where Ederson’s head is at or how determined he is to leave City so it’s difficult to say with any certainty what should happen. But personally I’d be doing what we can to keep him for this season if he wants to stay. If using the keeper in the build-up and having a ball playing goalie then we have to keep Ederson as Trafford looks a bag of nerves with the ball at his feet (early days I know) and Donna is supposedly less convincing!

It’s also being decisive and used to sweeping up behind a high line. One more year for Ederson is my preference on the proviso his head is in the game at City and he wants to stay.

If Ederson is sold to Galatasaray and Donnarumma comes in, then great. If Ederson slips through Gala's fingers for the sake of a few million Euros and remains a Manchester City player then great. Ederson is very popular with Manchester City fans.

Thanks for your update. I think Gala's president talks too much. He's spoken all Summer about Ederson and yet values him at 10m Euros.

Just to have him unmotivated around?
If there is no serious buyer out there what can we do? I feel the goalkeeper situation is a complete mess at the moment. Ederson may or may not have his head turned depending on what you read. His firm has been all over the place last 18 month also. However i think we have set a fair price for a international goalkeeper who has achieved what he has. If no one is prepared to buy him, then with it being a world cup year he might buck his ideas up in order to get in the Brazil squad. I was all for giving Trafford a chance ad number one, but Saturday he looked well off the level required, that coupled with him being hopelessly out of his depth with Burnley last time at this level has me worried. Then you have Ortega who we will allow to go and have no bids for. And them finally
