Have many of our “fans” become entitled?

I have addressed this point in another follow-up post and we are not in disagreement in terms of our older fans. The post you quoted was in response to a bump that said that a male in his 20s in the City end was booing and I was dealing with that particular point, not our support overall. I didn’t comment on older fans, or draw a distinction - so you are disagreeing with an inchoate point.

I agree that many of our older fans are amongst the most embittered. I see it at plenty of games, especially aways. So your post is disagreeing with a point that I agree with you on.

However to suggest that a period of 14 years with 25 trophies isn’t going to impact on the disposition of some City fans who were, say, 8, at the start of that run, simply isn’t a sustainable argument. Of course it will manifest itself in some young supporters with an inability to cope when that level of success comes to an end. That isn’t a controversial point, and something else you agree with me on.

Haven’t been in the Barcelona boys thread, but might venture in as it sounds like I could have a bit of fun…
You’ve seen it with my son, he’s struggled at times because all he’s ever known is success. He’s got better at dealing with it now but used to be the odd ridiculous outburst, lol.

Undoubtedly some are but let's have it right, the majority of the time when accusations of entitlement are thrown about its nothing more than people having reasonable expectations and moving on from the 90's mentality of being happy to stay up and maybe get a draw in the derby.

Its often the people who still haven't fully accepted we are one of the top dogs now and are partially still living in thr past that make these claims. The clubs own expectations are to challenge for everything, its perfectly reasonable to echo those expectations.

Yeah, it’s a good job his dad isn’t one of those moaning FOCs…

And he’s fine imo. Don’t think he’s entitled in the slightest.

My niece who takes me to the games is the same. Early 30s, only ever known success, has become a terrible loser and admits it.

I’m almost 67, so a member of the FOC group. City were a great team when I started supporting them, then I endured the shit era which went on far too long for a club of our size; and I eventually got used to it and my expectations were quite low. I expected to never see us winning anything again.

Now we are a great team again, so my expectations have increased dramatically. The last 14 years I could never have imagined, and I’ve got used to it; we’re so lucky to have witnessed this most successful period in the clubs history. I don’t want us to slip back into another shit era, so of course I get disappointed when we don’t win. Am I entitled? Of course not in the way the OP means, but I am entitled to think the club should never let the standards slip to how they were for most of my supporting life. However, I do think our current difficulties are just temporary. Our owners are very different to what we used to have.

I wasn’t at York, but I was at Wrexham for the following lunchtime game on Boxing Day, when the revival started. ;-)

Yeah but were you at Oxford?

Reasonable expectations do not extend to thinking the normal rules of competitive sport do not apply to Manchester City. Reasonable expectations do not extend to thinking that finishing third is a disastrous season. Reasonable expectations do not extend to thinking that retaining a title is normal. Reasonable expectations do not extend to thinking that what we enjoyed these last few years would continue forever.

So yes, expectations can quite properly adjust to the circumstances any of us find ourselves in, but they still have to be rooted in reality.

The way some of our supporters have reacted to the last twelve months is akin to someone at a roulette table having had black come in seven times on the spin and getting angry when it lands on red on the eighth spin. It was always going to happen eventually.

And anyone who thought it would keep landing on black probably didn’t stop and appreciate just how well things were going when it kept coming up black.

I'd like to be able to like this post twice.

I'm 62 and been going since 1970
What really pisses me off though are the JCLs who decided to follow After PG s Arrival
And treat the transfer policy like a PS 4 Game, ie buy everyone in sight,
Then want him Sacked when things go Wrong
If you are a real blue you stand by the team not some JCLs Rants
Some of them expect to win EVERY Game and Every Trophy too year in and year out -iit doesn't Happen Like and imo in 1 City Video Channel ran regularly Sounds like the Compare is having a tantrum again when he thinks we should have won and can't accept we haven't (NOT BIG SYEVE BTW)
So yeah a large degree of our Fan base is entitled and it's getting embarrassing

It is entitlement?

I've seen a lot of posts on this thread around how certain fans seem to have forgotten where we've come from and we should be grateful for all the success.

However this success has come at a huge personal cost and the disconnect between the fans and club has not been like this since the Swales era. I mean we had multiple protests last season for fucks sake and yet we're told that we've never had it so good.

We've suffered ridiculous match day pricing and now the club seem to be at war with season ticket holders. Local supporters have been priced out so the remaining supporters who have just about hung on have to watch the match next to some **** filming on an iPad. Every single "big" game we have away fans in the home end causing mither because we put thousands of tickets on legal touting platforms who also happen to be the clubs partners. You can't get an away ticket, you can't park your car near the ground, you can't fucking move when there's a gig on at the Co-Op, I could go on....

Yes Pep has made our dreams come true, yes we've had success beyond anything we could ever have imagined but it's come with consequences.

Entitled? Fucking too right I am. It's the least those fuckers owe me

You know what, thinking about this some more, for me it isn’t so much not winning things that annoys me, it’s the fact we seem to have stopped trying hard enough in the transfer market.

If we’d signed any of Bellingham, or Rice, or Wirtz or a similar level star, but still ended up third and with no trophies, it wouldn’t be so bad, we’d have been trying our best and I find that perfectly acceptable. But some of our recent signings haven’t really suggested title/CL winners level or ambition, whilst those of our main rivals have. That’s where the frustration lies for me.

I have been home and away since early 70s, and I am still probably one of the worst bad losers in Britain. I have never been entitled, but still fucking hate losing at 60 years. Doubt I will ever change? I still have media blackout days too ;-)

My Family comes first tbh

100%. For the last fifteen years we as supporters have been forced defend our club at every turn, cheats, oil, sportswashing blah blah. Meanwhile the club tells us to behave and not get too angry when scousers throw pots full of coins and piss at us. The club have taken on the mantle of being a big club so we will go along, but when we play dross for a year we won’t sit on our hands.
