11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

Am I the only one that didn't rate him? He had one brief moment of brilliance and a bit of luck, then in the second half every time he touched the ball he gave it away. He gave away the ball due to trying his flick on and turn at least 3 times the second half, and another 7+ needless turnovers. Savinho actually improved our ability to maintain possession after replacing him, which says a lot.

Created 4 big chances: for Foden and Reijnders in the 1st half and 2 for Haaland in the 2nd half.

Can't remember a game vs United where Sterling or Sane contributed 2 assists or g/a.

Those stats you are mentioning don't take into account the chances Doku created. I remember a game vs Liverpool (1:1) where he created chances for Haaland and Alvarez but they missed them. I remember also that he won a pen at Spurs in the penultimate game of the season, Haaland scored for 2:0. Last season at Spus, Doku created at least 3 good chances, only one was scored.

Generally, he hasn't been as bad as your stats portray him. Plus, I posted his minutes per GA in the league last season: about the same as... Cole Palmer.

I think he needs a bit of freedom because when he runs at defenders from more central positions he can cause havoc just like yesterday.
Didn’t Leroy come in at 0-0 at old Trafford and score and assist?

Still changed the game as I recall but you won’t remember without a stat ;)

Don't know what 'changed the game' is supposed to mean here. He wasn't involved in Bernardo's goal which came first and would have been sufficient anyway. Sane's goal helped us win comfortably. Just like Doku winning the pen at Spurs and Haaland scoring from it eased the nerves.

Sometimes games are changed when a player draws opponents out of shape etc. lots of other ways I.e lifts team mates, adds energy etc.

Hopefully that's the last we'll hear of this championship standard winger bollocks on this forum.

Don't rate him? Fine. Get frustrated by him? Fine. But hes a lot better than people give him credit for.

First decent game for the season fwiw, but really pleasing to see.

You did a fine job of giving reasons why people might think hes championship standard there :-)

One of his best for City. I think he's improving for City and Belgium.
I hope so.

But let's wait to see.

Doku is at times world class and at other times awful.

For me, Doku had his best game ever for our side... but he needs to constantly replicate this form or close to.

The problem with Doku is that he is mostly never as good as he was today against ManU. He's very progressive (a plus), but he gives the ball away very often - and on balance - his give aways swamp his productive output. In other words, Doku gets into excellent position with frequency and then - with frequency fails to deliver an end product - and turns the ball over. On net, Doku still isn't worthwhile - his goal contributions aren't enough to balance his turnovers.

Doku has been MOTM on numerous prior occasions - and in this game he was my MOTM (if I were a Doku hater I'd have put Holland or Foden as MOTM - I'm not a hater at all - I simply call out what I see). Fantastic performance. But he needs to play to this level - or nearly so - on a consistent basis.

Constantly? Even Messi doesn't contribute 2 goals per game.
You're nit picking - obviously.

Doku is an inconsistent but fantastic dribbler - able to beat multiple defenders to get into prime position. And from such position he sometimes scores himself, or sometimes makes an assist, or sometimes takes a shot on goal which unluckily doesn't result in a score. or sometimes makes an excellent pass that should have lead to a goal - but in sum of all of these outcomes - most often, Doku makes a mistake in such position - giving the ball away.

He's a player who is still developing. Let's see what happens this season.

For me, he needs to contribute 15+ goals/assists in the league and 20+ in all competitions (injuries permitting). That would be a really good season.

So beyond the obvious stuff, what I really liked on Sunday was how he moved all over the pitch and understood where the gaps and spaces were (made easier by the fact that for United they were fucking everywhere). It felt like the Pep education had kicked in and he was applying it successfully.

Bring him closer to the middle, let him alternate more between left and right during the match, and most importantly play a quicker game which will get the ball to him sooner and it will also have the defense still deeper and covering for him when he loses the ball (which is something he should have more lenience in order to create). He will be worldclass.

Apparently so.
Hmm.

Still worth keeping. There are going to be times this season where will we really need him. Same to an extent with Savinho.
