City's Dutch Connection..

Any regular Euro away Blue will have met our Dutch brethren. The PSV lads, NEC Nijmegen boys and the likes. Nutters the lot of 'em but the soundest lads you'd ever meet.

I first met them in Dortmund. They had their own coach parked up near the main square. Offered us a lift to the stadium and we all left the square together, 50 strong, proper firm vibes. Felt like the old days tagging along with them lads. Since then seen them everywhere. Madrid, Bratislava, Belgrade. Last time was at Lisbon when 2 of them got an absolute battering at the hands of some Eastern European doormen. They loved a good scrap.

Particularly poignant right now due the sudden passing of Loz, who's being laid to rest next week. A few Wythy lads are travelling to Dam Sunday to pay this top lad their respects. Big Steve, Daps. Good to see so many Blues taking time out to show respect to the man. City shirts compulsory, as requested by his family. He loved the Blues.

Never really given this much thought until the bad news about Loz happened. Does anyone know where this Dutch connection came from? When it started? Why it started?

Historically they got BBC on free cable and therefore MoTD so they tend to follow whoever is doing well in England.

started with Feyenoord & Antwerp lads coming over in the mid 90s. These are the true dutch/belgian city fans that have come over in groups and vice versa.
 
Doesn’t the Feyenoord connection begin with the John Guterias (spelling) loan signing after he scored a hatrick against Ajax ?

Few lads I know go to Rotterdam regularly to watch Feyenoord

No, nothing to do with a a footballer joining us.

Started from an incident in London, Feyenoord were playing in London in the 90s and saved a young woman from being SA'd

They looked after her, etc with the promise from her that they will be looked after for saving her.

They didnt expect a response back and they did, including money they used to support the young lady.

How this came about to be a link with City was this young woman, her father was a director at City (i dont know his name) and he offered free tickets to a City game, which just happened to be vs United.

They came over, in the home end, depsite a few having a slight support for the red side and seeing what they say the rest is history.

Rotterdam/Antwerp are twinned cities, so Antwerp fans started to come over, few of Antwerps rivals Beerschot have come over aswell. Recent times and I've met a few Den Bosch fans because of the Feyenoord relationship, and Den Bosch fans have started coming over in groups

I've been over to Rotterdam/Antwerp because of this friendship, and all though I havent personally seen any of them in a few years, still keep in touch on social media, and they still keep coming over.

Lots of trouble at last seasons Feyenoord game which I was sbocked to see.

Didnt Feyenoord do an Anti City banner last season, seemed to be Slot going to Liverpool inspired?

No trouble with City fans, more to do with police from what I seen. Previous game before that was nothing but then again not all feyenoord fans will support city.

Not sure on the banner front, but I know like many of those who have a 2nd team etc, others will support other teams so theres always that.

Ah, mine was from social media as wasnt in the ground as was banned along with my 90yr old disabled Father so watched on TV.

The irony of seeing crowd disturbances sat next to my dad was not lost on us.

Heyside Juniors FC and a junior youth football club from Nijmegen, for many years had football exchanges, during the 90's and 00's. Alternate years Dutch families hosting English visitors and vice versa. On their visits to the UK, many age groups visited Maine Rd, thus developing a strong bond with the Mighty Blues for ever.

Regular visitors to the Etihad and some aways, particularly in Europe with Royton and Chadderton blues.

Some Royton have attended NEC games too.

My abiding memory of Feyenoord was the game at their place in 2017 when we dicked 'em 4-0. At the end of the game the stand below us all turned round and gave our away support a round of applause. Respect.
