One of the worst ever in the North Atlantic basin, and will be the worst ever recorded to hit Jamaica if it makes landfall. The winds in the eyewall are currently being measured at 175 mph.

Some facsinating footage from today inside the eye from the hurricane planes.

This will be devastating near the centre, as it's very slow moving currently, so long lasting impacts of wind, rain, and storm surge.

Just had a look at some radars there. Looks like 230KmH/140MpH wind along with around 200mm/8in of rain. Could be absolutely catastrophic. Prayers to Jamaica and any other affected areas.

Just said on the news there’s 10 thousand Brits living and holidaying in Jamaica right now, hopefully everyone gets through this unscathed and there is no more deaths, it’s a bad one it really is,god bless everyone.

I read yesterday that some holiday makers had arrived Thursday. Pretty sure it was known then that this was headed there and would be 4/5.

That’s a ‘ballsy’ move (you can replace ‘ballsy’ with several other words)
A brit got interviewed yesterday saying he arrived on Thursday and there was no warning. Melissa was just starting as a tropical storm at that stage and no incline that it was going to turn into the strongest hurricane this year. I feel for the family having young kids with them as well. Nothing you can do , literally stranded

I was looking at holidays in Jamaica on the weekend and there was no warning then.
Hopefully this storm is nowhere near as bad as it could be.

Scary stuff.
You can only be thankful that we don't experience such weather terror here in the UK...yet.

I worked there 89? after hurricane gilbert destroyed a lot of the Island. Did hell of a lot of damage to the infrastructure and manufacturing industry, tourism was hit really hard. It was the first time I had seen a curfew, wierd driving through Kingston at night with no one around only armed troops. I think at the time it was the strongest recorded hurricane ever recorded, I pray this one is not as bad. I worked in the loss mitigation/ damage management industry at the time.
as an afterthought, I lived in the Wyndham for 4 months and saw Byron Lee and the Dragonaires live , twice.

My favourite place absolutely adore the gaff and the heads.

When you get 5 mins outside the major cities everyone lives in a little iron shack with no roof or a little silly one.

Could be absolutely diabolical if it hits like it might.
