Will we win the league this season?

At any rate... Arsenal are at least 2 deep at every single position. Injuries are extremely unlikely to derail them. And they are rock solid on defense - every single game - they will not concede many goals. Meanwhile, the rest of the league is either rebuilding or has had massive changes to their side. I may be wrong - but for me - Arsenal are going to win this league in record fashion.

Meanwhile, you're apologizing for being a City fan - as if that's a bad thing - or as if virtually every single poster on this forum is not.

So you’ve not been into soccerball that long then is the answer to my question. You come across as a JCL who gets spoon fed his opinions by the pundits and who this time last year was probably saying that the dippers would win the league in record fashion.

I’m no happy clapper. I’m openly critical of the club and some of the players when I feel it’s merited. I’ve been critical of the transfer policy in recent windows and have said that our failure to pay the big bucks when needed has left us with a squad that’s significantly poorer in quality than it’s been for most of the last decade and a half.

All that notwithstanding I do think we have a fair outside chance of winning the league this year largely due to the lack of a standout team in the league. Any team with a superstar striker, a superstar keeper, the best manager in history and a hopefully back to somewhere near his best ballon d’or winner can’t be ruled out after a quarter of the season

As for "soccerball" - wtf is that? We play football... Oh.. I get it!!! It's a fucking smear against American fans.

And in opposition to your claim, there is, in fact, a standout side in the league - Arsenal.

Have you watched many of their games? I've watched most of them.

Every single game- they're rock solid on defense. If the other side scores - it's a fluke. Going forward, Arsenal mostly keep the ball and grind away - nothing too impressive. But they come up with an eventual goal - frequently from set pieces.

If Arenal are to lose the league, lack of goal scoring ability might prove their downfall - they could conceivably succumb to numerous draws.

That said, I treat - or at least hope I do - honest discourse respectfully.

But shit posters claiming or insinuating that I'm not a fan of City - or bringing my American nationality into question (hey, I fucking hate Trump even more than you likely do) - are going to get my very worst.

I think whoever wins the PL has a massive spurt of games that they just win. Usually that comes around December or January and then really kick on through March to the end of the season.

Arsenal, this year and a few of the last keep turning in those performances at the beginning of the season. I think they'll be spent to a degree come March, and then watching whomever is coming up behind them.

So for that reason I don't think Arsenal will win it this year - And then they'll sack Arteta, then they'll be starting all over again.

But there again, I also think Liverpool could win the title, if things turn around for them they will be full of themselves and also full of the very talented players they bought.

We’re not getting anywhere here, it’s an agreement to disagree I think

Just one small thing though. Yep I can’t argue with you, Arsenal are currently favourites to win the league but the implied probability of it happening based on the market is 66%. Now if you went to the doc with an illness and he said “yeah yeah more likely than not you’ll be alive this time next year- your chances are 66% “ the journey home would be a fairly sombre one would it not ;-)
 
There's a decent chance that Arsenal will shit the bed. They have very good defence but nothing special going forward. Stay close and we could take advantage.

Fun (or maybe not) fact.

When I started playing football as a 7 year-old, I was RCB in a 5-3-2 formation - standard at the time.

In college, I was set to join UC Riverside as a defensive midfielder, but due to my major, I transferred to UCLA (and wasn't good enough to get into that squad - alas).

I think it's too early to make calls like that. The season is long. At this moment it's more important to understand the potential of each side and City's potential is ever-increasing. We had hoped that Foden was back to his best and tonight confirmed it, and Cherki is looking like the signing we hoped he would be.

Automatic qualification for the KO stages of the CL now looks achievable and that is one of the first targets for City. We need 16 points and we have 10 points with 4 games to go.

I think we all accept the evidence of the league table and Arsenal's form but that should also tell us that are on our way back and are going to challenge for the title. Yes we have a tough game coming up against Liverpool which will likely only have 1 goal in it but whatever the outcome, I think City will be there at the end of the season. A quarter of the season has gone. City are well-positioned and gathering in strength. We still haven't added Rodri to the first XI, and that might be the final piece in the jigsaw.
