The "which famous person died today" thread

"Count Quentualla" as Clarkson dubbed him because of his widows peak. Skilled and knowledgeable motoring journalist who was more open to EV's than many. Fatal flaw was he always liked a fag so I am not surprised lung cancer got him in the end. Even so to a 64 year old like me 68 seems far too young. RIP Quentin.

Quentin Wilson. My dad used to love watching the older Top Gear with him.
Still remember him saying that owning a people carrier was the motoring equivalent of wearing a duffle coat! Also that buying a car from a main dealer, having them service it and replace the tyres was like standing in the street with a fistful of £20 notes and setting fire to them. (I hope the second quote was him, it sounds like him) RIP.

Helen Newlove, the brave lady who became famous in a way she would have given anything not to have happened. Rest in peace.

She did so much good work after the awful murder of her husband.

It happened on a road and in an area I grew up around and still only live a mile away. A mate of mine was walking back from the pub that night and saw the aftermath. Horrible.

One of the jailed was my next door neighbour at one point.

Yes i remember it clearly. There had been growing anti sociable behaviour in the area by this group of youths which sadly culminated in her husband's death when he went outside to confront them.

What a great shame. I had nothing but the deepest respect for this amazing lady who, having faced her own tragedy when Gary was murdered, fought so tirelessly for other victims of crime.

As mentioned above a very brave lady who will be sadly missed and at such a relatively young age too. RIP Helen and sincerest condolences to the family.

Think they had all been boozing and drugs possibly. The parents of the lad were horrible layabouts. I had many a run in with them. He didn’t seem so bad as a kid but obviously went down the wrong path like the others. Vile crime.

Very well put. I’ve read she passed away after a brief illness. Such a terrible shame, she was a quite a remarkable lady the way she stood up and spoke out after what happened to her husband. I listened to her only a few months ago in a forum where she was a guest speaker and she came across extremely well and caring for victims of crime. God bless her.
