I fear that you are confirming his nasty accusation that City fans don't care about innocent people dying with your comments on this. He is undoubtedly a **** for accusing us of this, and I'm sure most City fans are as shocked and disturbed as any other people about what is going on in Sudan.

However, we are Manchester City fans, it doesn't necessarily follow that we are Sheik Mansour fans, or United Arab Emirates fans. We support City because we have history with the club, we love the club, and we love football. We had no say in who bought our club. Sheik Mansour has been a great owner of our club (mostly), and we can quite rightly thank him for that, but that doesn't mean we have to agree with every action he takes or thought he has.

Ronay is disingenuously trying to corner us into a "you're with us or against us" dichotomy as a way to attack us as a fanbase. He hates our club and he hates us for loving it. He can fuck off with that argument as far as I'm concerned. I am personally disgusted at what is happening in Sudan, but that won't, and shouldn't, stop me supporting Manchester City. I feel no conflict of interest at all.

I have no issue with the highlighting of the links
City -> Mansour -> Sudan

I have large issues with the fact that it’s just one club who are singled out for dubious ‘links’ to hideous things in the world by Ronay et al.

Where were all the pieces for:

United -> Saudi -> khashoggi
United have had a very longterm relationship with Saudi, including a sports academy (opened after Khashoggi murder) iirc

Liverpool-> standard Chartered -> laundering billions for terrorists and billion in fines

Going back further
Arsenal -> owner investment -> blood diamonds

And the amount of fawning pieces from all the football media who went to Russia - after Crimea, the Donbas, Chechenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Trans Nistra etc, had occurred/occuring …

Until football media pieces start having ‘mea culpa’ sections, then they can stfu and stop trying to point score geo-political against their most hated noncartel club

I agree.i think Geopolitics is more complex and nuanced. They tried to blame City for the Civil War in Yemen which was a fight between islamists and another fanatical faction. And of course the UK and US supply most of the weapons.

The Guardian has had to apologise for Ronay's article, but only to Frankie Boyle for wrongly saying he'd recently performed in Dubai. It's a strange take on the issue to suggest our outrage shouldn't be focussed on the people actually committing the atrocities but on a football club and its supporters part-owned by a member of a government which may be supporting one of the militias involved (although they deny it).

I think both City players were pretty decent overall, but Serbia's xg was 1.43, England's was 0.88. England were fortunate to keep a clean sheet. It's probably a fair point to be concerned about England's defensive frailties, Serbia had some chances they butchered.

I very much doubt people like Ronay seriously give two fucks about the situation in the Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen or anywhere else. It's just a stick to beat us with.

Same way some on here do care about the plight of Palestinians but some see Gaza purely as a stick to beat Israel with or cloak their antisemitism. Or we use Standard Chartered as a stick to beat Liverpool fans with. Etc, etc. It's clear even from the limited subset who post on here that City fans have widely different views on many topics (apart from hatred of the red shirt cartel).

We've all been guilty of selective outrage at some time.

He stated that he really thinks that Manchester City will struggle if Erling Haaland is injured and has to miss games. Andrew cannot see where any goals will come from.

We have managed to be the leading scorers in English football pretty much for the last ten years. Meanwhile Andy Cole still can’t get a job in football. Probably because he’s a moron
