Russian invasion of Ukraine

Seems like an interesting chap, across diverse areas like Covid conspiracy theories (associations with RFK Jr), China (supporting communist party position on Uyghurs) and Ukraine.

On Ukraine "In March 2023, a group of 340 economists published an open letter to "address some of the historical misrepresentations and logical fallacies" that they said were contained in Sach's arguments regarding the Russo-Ukrainian war."

So in a small minority and associated with fringe positions on many issues.

I think I'd take with a large grain of salt.

I think the other well known Sachs provides a better response to this loony.

Technically, Russia is now broke
The shadow tanker fleet is sailing around the world trying to sell Russian oil is not finding any buyers. India and China have virtially stopped importing Russian Oil as their major companies don't want to to be sanctioned by the US. Even buying Russian oil from a company that breaks sanctions can lead to sanctions being impossed on them!

Both China and India are clearly telling Russia to stop and take what they have taken - but Putin is not listening.

Oil can no longer be essily exported via the Black Sea as yesterday's strike at Novorossiysk has shown. Russian air defence in the area is now unservisable and seemingly with a steady supply of Flamingo missiles the port facilities and shipping can be reduced to a smoking wreck.

It should also be noted that businesses in Russia are collapsing left right and centre.

If Europe ups it's support for Ukraine - Russia would be in serious trouble.

A long interesting read on the state of the Russian economy...

Day 1366 Review:

I see there has been a sabotage attack (potentially two) on a Polish railway line that helps deliver aid into Ukraine, southeast of Warsaw, an explosion has destroyed some of the line.
