I think a draw is fine but a defeat will be a major blow. Four defeats before Christmas is not a good look and would badly damage the confidence of a young developing team.
There are always more pages after a poor performance and that's understandable as a lot of those pages are people unhappy about other people who are unhappy. Human nature really.
I do take your point but I’m a pragmatist Father Paul. Given the choice I’d sooner we lose and Arsenal draw rather than we draw and Arsenal win.

Confidence imo will come from having a run of results that closes the gap to them and hopefully overtakes them rather than avoiding an arbitrary number of defeats

We will know a lot more about this City team after this match.
Yep absolutely.

Ive been getting very giddy watching all sorts of content on YouTube. However we lose here and Arsenal win and we're back to where we started before the Liverpool game.

My biggest fear going into this season is we'd win certain games and look like world beaters but ultimately won't have the consistency to do it over 38 games.

Clubs like villa / tottenham/ Brighton ( full of energy and play on the counter) *dare I say Newcastle are our cyptinite.

Id probably take a point right now but if we're serious about winning the league we need to be going there and putting on a performance.

Theres probably never a better time to play them.Pope, Livermento, Burn, Gordan, Wissa are all unlikely to play/start.

Theres been a real shift in narrative since the Liverpool game and for me the dreaded hope is now a reality. But with best Gk and Striker in the world. Nunes and O reilly looking solid. Gonzalez looking like Rodri 2.0 and with Rodri to be back in the squad. Foden and Doku looking like world beaters. Cherki looking like prime Benarbia then Reijnders, Marmoush , Bobb and Savio to come off the bench then its all looking very positive!

Gabriel, Odergaard, Gyokeres all missing theres a good chance they drop points to either spurs of Chelsea especially with them playing Bayern in midweek.

In what world are Newcastle our kryptonite?

It worries me when I'm confident but I'm confident.

I don't see anything in Newcastle to really trouble us if hit anywhere near our top level, which we should given the form most of our players are in.

The BBC Report Card for Newcastle Utd written by Charlotte Robson, True Faith.

Which player is flying?: Malick Thiaw. Signed this summer after Fabian Schar suffered a concussion playing against Barcelona early in the season and seamlessly fitted into our defence. He has shown himself to be an incredibly skillful and smart defender.

Which player is floundering?: Anthony Gordon has not found his form yet. I'm not happy saying he is 'floundering' as he has been instrumental in our Champions League games, but in the league he has yet to find his mojo.

Tactically I think we... do not have an identity this season. Our full-backs have been blighted by injury, which has meant relying on players that we probably hoped to see less of. I expected us to be a more attacking team this season and we have not been able to realise that vision. Increasingly, it has looked chaotic on the pitch.

I want my manager to give me... more of what he has given us in the past few seasons, which is to say a delicious run of games where we win and play brilliantly, because I know he has it in him to get that out of our players. It just has not clicked yet for us.

Some of our fans seem obsessed with... Sunderland away in December.

But they should be thinking about... Everton and the games before. We need to fix our form and start winning more broadly.

My expectations for the season were... to really kick on in the league table and cement ourselves as a consistent top-six contender. I am now hopeful we can progress in the cup competitions. I am not sure top six is within reach, though.

Score for the season so far: 6.5/10. We need to find that league form but we are still in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup and doing well in the Champions League.

One sentence on how you're feeling right now: Cautiously positive about the rest of the season because Eddie Howe often answers difficult questions put to him and we have got players coming back from injury. I hope we can really turn it around and start picking up more points.

Last time we played there. Very likely, 7 new players in the team that will play next time.Wow

the last team to win there (2-3)

I literally put my reasoning in the post - "Clubs like villa / Tottenham/ Brighton ( full of energy and play on the counter)"

I meant kryptonite in terms of these sort of teams, the way they set up over the past couple of years have been a problem for us. However with Nunes and O'reilly we now have the benefit of recovery pace so hopefully won't have the same issues. Either way it's going to be a tough game that we'll need to be strong all over the pitch to come away with all 3 points.

Doku is in a really good form atm ,don´t think he will be benched, he shouldn´t be.
We should always be careful with Doku because he doesn't have a good muscle injury record.

IMG_2903.jpeg

He’s currently on one of his best ever runs in his career without picking up a muscle injury and he’s played a great deal of football this season, with 12 starts in our 17 games and he’s come on as a sub in all but one of the other 5 games. He’s also started all 6 of Belgium’s games this season, with three full 90 minutes completed.
