Fixtures Calendar - 2025/26

Is it my memory or every time the fixtures come out we seem to be away at Boxing Day ( or around that date) and the same for the new year when was the last time we actually had both fixtures at home ..
No mate you are not imagining. Its pretty much the same every year around Christmas, we get shafted. I know my memory is hazy at times but the only home Boxing Day fixture iirc was Burnley 2015 and we drew 2-2. We always seem to be away and usually with schleps to Leicester/ Southampton ( neither this year) so hey presto step forward - randomly chosen by the PL Sunderland. Maximum inconvenience for the fans and not brilliant for the team. Meanwhile over at Old Swamp, massive festive revenues with 3 holiday time games.....

We played at home on boxing day last year and in 2021 and 2020, so in the last 6 seasons we have played at home 50% of the time.

My memory is far worse than I thought. Doctor when's your next appointment? :-).

It actually FEELS like we are away every Boxing Day fixture. There would have been no crowd in 2020, I'll go check the results, both events had entirely been zapped from my mind!

Just checked the stats, beat Newcastle 2020 and Leicester 6-3 in 2021.

However, thec last home Boxing Day prior to that was 5 years ago iirc and may well have been the 2015 I remember.

Surely its not right and what is the probability in a so called 'random' fixture generator that the Rags get the majority of home Boxing Day fixtures. Be interesting to see how it's divied up on Murkyside as well because that is also a two PL club location. I'd bet the Toffees fare worst like we do without festive home advantage....

You miss my point, chief.

I can’t remember any team ever having no home game between December 21st and January 4th. Every team always has one at home and one away. This year we have two away games. Why is this?

Last season we had Everton at home and Leicester away: no problem. This year, we are away twice at the end of December. I wonder if any other team is away both those two fixtures.
They appear to have abandoned their own rules!

Are there any rules you have to adhere to?

Around the Christmas period, if you are at home on Boxing Day you will be away on New Year's Day or an equivalent date. We also try to maintain a Saturday home-away sequence throughout the season wherever possible.

Why does this NOT surprise me. I wish City would kick up a fuss instead of accepting the unfairness of this repeatedly happening. Its bad enough having to contend with how we are shafted most of the time with the on pitch shenanigans never mind so called random and/or planned festive fixtures done to favour rivals. Add in tV messing about with fixtures - seemingly always to our disadvantage/ help to our title rivals and you have the perfect example in plain sight of how we are so disliked. That we manage to overcome the created obstacles is another testament to the teams mentality.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Rags, Chelsea, Sunderland, Forest, Burnley, Brentford, Palace and West Ham are all playing 2 home games over Xmas/New Year. One of those group of fixtures is entirely reversed over December 6th weekend, which suggests they could have quite easily found a way to stick to their own rules…
