Serious question; do the good folk of Bury and Stockport see themselves as Mancs? There's a lot of towns that are in the "Greater Manchester" area, and I'm not sure they'd all see themselves as Mancs.

Well, I don't know Bury, but I did grow up in and around Stockport. And there were certainly people who would say firmly to me, “Oh, we're not in Manchester. This is Stockport, this is!”.
If you take that at face value, well then… Phil is not a Manc.

I don't want to rehearse the lengthy, slightly tiresome and probably unresolvable exchange I had on another thread, but again, there is the insider perspective, and then the outsider perspective. I humbly suggest that from the outsider perspective — that is, most of the country, and certainly the vast majority of people south of Watford Gap — both Bury and Stockport are in “Manchester”, if they've heard of them (and Bury, I suspect, would be very hazy geography for a lot of people in Britain, no disrespect for the citizens of that borough intended).

Spurs, Villa and now Newcastle have all put in their best performance of the season against us

Do they raise their games? Or is there something in the way we play that allows opponents to shine? Or is it just a coincidence?

Whatever it is, it pisses me right off when you see them play like wankers like spurs did today

Spurs Villa and Newcastle have physical midfielders we struggle against that. For some reason our midfield is too lightweight and we get bullied against physically imposing teams. Nico is the only one in midfield that can continuesly win duels. We have a serious problem with winning duels in the middle.

He'll be just as good off the left roaming with O'Reilly bombing on the overlap. Played there for Palace and will for Arsenal when Odegaard is fully fit.

Agree. Tuchel seems to prefer a pace merchant down the left though, either Rashford if Gordon.

Just seems daft to me that all the nonsense media talk of Rogers v Bellingham for the 10, when there's also Eze, Foden and Palmer who should all be in the conversation too (and ahead of Bellingham in my eyes).

I think the real problem is we haven't raised our game enough in the encounters you mention, the Villa game especially. There will be more of those type of results as well unless we go up a cog. Agree with you last sentence wholeheartedly btw.

i think way we play we dont really like getting stuck in as they say
when fernandinho and De jong we could battle but these days we like easy free flowing football better to watch but easier to play against just with effort
brighton is only game we fell asleep

Didn't include him as, although he came through the academy, technically he's not a Manc, and our gooner guest did say Manc!

Bury, if anyone is asking.

Semantics? Possibly!
True, but is local, lives in Failsworth and a boyhood City fan. So I’d include him.
If players born in Greater London are Londoners (Eze), or born in West Midlands are Brummies (Grealish) or Northumberland are Geordies (Burn), then local Greater Manchester players can be included…
Only fair ;-)

I reckon it depends on what part of the local boroughs you’re from determines your thinking. People from North side of Oldham for instance would never consider themselves Mancs, whilst those in Failsworth certainly would. Jesus, some of them in East Oldham consider themselves as Yorkies… Springhead, Scouthead, Saddleworth. Proper confused town.

Do people in Prestwich consider themselves as Mancs? it is just 3 miles from centre of Manchester, but 5 miles from centre of Bury.

Bolton, Wigan & Rochdale no chance, with the exception of Middleton perhaps. Back on topic!

I see Roberto Martinez is on MNF. To quote the great Eamon Dunphy; the guy's a spoofer.
Villa beat us 3-2 at their place years ago. Martinez said in commentary, "the linesman did well to not give that offside" as Villa scored from an offside position. I've detested him ever since.
