Will we win the league this season?

This thread is full of very confident predictions and certainties that Arsenal will, at some point, shit their pants and drop a load of points, particularly if we're sniffing around anything within 6 or 7 points come spring.

I dunno, i think there's a pragmatism to them this season that's not been present before this season. Almost as if they've sacrificed the pretence of pretty stuff to focus purely on stats driven wins, they look very strong and efficient. Machine like.

I'd be more than happy, cocker hoop, if they shat their pants again come spring, but it does also mean we have to keep track of them for the next 16 to 19 games, i.e. we need to track/better their points tally for the next 4 months. Multiple variables = less likely.

this. mad how some seem to think they'll turn shit just because we are. they've had their shite games already but as they're solid they grind out the results. the title is gone 100 % BUT we are looking good for CL spot which is alright considering our rebuild phase

I don’t think it’s scandalous to give Arsenal their due in terms of the team performance.
They built their team brick by brick like we did and we had the advantage of having the greatest manager of all time managing us.
Hence we won 6 titles in 8 years.

Arteta is no Pep but he is a very good manager but I don’t know if other people have noticed but his insider knowledge of City and our working has helped him shape his arsenal team in a similar mould.
He can’t replicate the pep style because well no one can.

But I think this is their centurion season without the 100 points. A well stocked midfield , numerous attackers and almost every single position has two elite players.
Their defence is strong as well.

My only apprehension about them is emotional one. They are an emotional team and that comes from Arteta. The defiant stoic city performances on last day of the season is something they were not able to replicate because they got too emotional and into their head at the last stretch of the league.

The advantage they have this season is City or Liverpool is not there weekends on weekends to annoy them.
I would have loved to see them squirm if we had won at Newcastle and the gap was reduced to 1.
But our result coupled with typical incompetent and impotent display by Spurs means we never got to see the fragility.
Hopefully we get another chance soon.

i don't quite go with 100% gone, i'll never think that until the maths says so, but we have to be a bit realistic that Arsenal are improved in terms of grinding out the results, as you say.

I had us down at about 30% chance 4 weeks ago, i'm updating that to about 20% chance now. It'll take a mighty post new year run, which is maybe what Rodri is being saved for....

We should be worrying about staying in the top 4 rather than thinking we can win the league.
The recruitment of players over the last 2 windows has been a utter failure.
We appear to have gathered a group of players who have ability but lack power, pace , energy ,the ability to tackle properly and worst of all have a weak mindset/mentality traits.
Hard decisions need to be made over the next 6 months or we are in for a long period of mediocrity.

I keep seeing people on BM saying we are in the middle of rebuild, now i dont want to be a Debbie downer but Pep is going in 18months, not only is it highly unlikely he will complete a rebuild in that time, when a new coach/manager comes in, he will want to build is own team which makes absolute sense.

In my view we are treading water until Pep goes.

I think it goes beyond that. Football has been and always will be cyclical. We had an unbelievable 10 years dominating in England and we really should have won more than 1 champions league (thank god we won 1 though) .

Before us it was largely Chelsea albeit for a shorter period then before them it was man united. Now it looks like Arsenal will dominate for the next few years both domestically and in Europe (I’m pretty sure they will win a champs league in next few years).

We had the best manager and a team full of hungry young superstars. We bought extremely well in the main and it was the perfect storm. 100 points, 4 in a row, domestic quad, the treble etc etc. it was unrealistic to think this would carry on forever. We have lost some absolutely huge players and we haven’t been able to replace them with the same level of quality. This is partly due to the inflated fees now for top tier players and other players chose to go elsewhere.

We are at the end of the cycle. We are hopefully building up towards another successful iteration of this football team. But right now Arsenal are fully in their sweet spot. We now need to do what they did, buy hungry top quality players across the board and we will be back.

Teams age. I think we understand that.

To challenge Arsenal we need to turn the narrow defeats at Villa and Newcastle into draws and wins. We are not far away imo. Add a fit Rodri to a team with Donnarumma, Stones, Foden and Haaland and that would probably be enough. However, we might have to wait some time before Rodri is ready and by then Arsenal will be gone.

We have replaced many players. You are way off with that but it takes time for those players to develop. See Doku. Khusanov is developing etc. O'Reilly is developing into a really top class player. Cherki and Marmoush are potentially very good players. Potential is a big word and you are entitled to take a pessimistic view. Marmoush and Cherki have shown enough for me to be optimistic.

We are far better off than this time 12 months ago.

“It looks like Arsenal will dominate for the next few years both domestically and in Europe “

Jeez, you don’t feel you might’ve gone just a bit early with that prediction mate ? Arsenal haven’t dominated anything since Herbert Chapman’s time, haven’t won the league in 20 years and haven’t won in Europe for 30 years .

Arsenal have been shitting the bed at the first sign of spring every year since the last decade of Wenger. I see no reason for that to change this season.

But if they do go on and hold it together then fair play and well done, they'll have deserved the title.

Much rather them than the vermin down the M62.

Besides It’s not much of a rebuild when we bring in the likes if Rendeer, Savinho and Ait Noiri. There’s no one on the bench outside of first 11 who will change a game.

City are treading water in 3rd. We fall just short every time we go away to an Arsenal, Newcastle, Villa etc but I think we are entitled to believe that a fit Rodri makes the difference.

Bobb, Marmoush, Savinho, Reijnders, Cherki are all regular subs. I think they can change a game although they probably need to develop a little. All of them can do so.

Can any of the players above get into our first choice team on a regular basis, the answer is no with the possible exception of Cherki.
