10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

I'm reading too many fans in the last few pages buying into the media bollocks that Rayan is not a pressing player, loses possession, doesn't work hard, look unfit etc etc.

This guy has created more in the scant minutes he's had than our entire midfield group. He has incredible upside as he offers us something that no other player in the squad does. Kev for example was the one who always tried the harder passes, which is why he completion stats were not high 90's - since he went we have turned into a side that would rather take the safer option - we have built a team that is risk adverse - Rayan is totally different and yet people are making up their minds over a 22 year old with lass than 550 minutes into his career - I find that baffling.

I know fans will note in other threads I've been critical of Savinho but to be honest I only started to post that after the guy had over 40 starts - in other words can we not cut a new player a bit more slack. If Rayan after 20 starts is still stuck on his current goals/ assists maybe I will change my mind. From what I've seen so far here is a player that put in the right midfield balance could elevate us to previous heights. Let's be honest there are a lot more issues than wanting Rayan to run around all game like Paul Dickov (who I loved but was more of a worker bee than a Sergio striker)

Got to hope he starts today because if we start with Tijjani and Savinho ahead of him I will lose my mind ha!

Leaving him out and only bringing him on in the 75th minute was a huge mistake. None of them have his personality, creativity, or willingness to take risks; they're all there to make back passes and lateral passes.

Another assist! Reijnders should have shot at an opponent or into the stands. I hope Pep understands that he needs to build the game around him, the only true number 10 we have who's capable of making the team play.

A double pivot of Rodri and Nico. Will allow us to play our best attackers. And Cherki is one.

I believe that is when we will see our best eleven really step it up.
nail - on - the - head. I said in the post match thread that to get us firing again and also get the best out of both Erling and Phil Rayan is a must - to do that we need insurance and balance deeper -A fit Rodri changes the whole dynamic of the team.

He's an enjoyable player to watch, and is productive in terms of goal contributions.

Feel our use of him has been a bit different to what I expected, seems to be starting the on paper tougher games (e.g. Liverpool, Newcastle, Spurs), then only getting sub cameos in the games you'd expect us to dominate (e.g. Leeds, Everton, Wolves).

I thought Pep would use him the opposite way round, unlocking tight defences in games we dominate, but not wanting his risky style against the stronger teams.

We're short a more robust midfielder to compensate for Cherki's lack of pace and physicality in those tougher games. Relying on Gonzalez, Bernardo Foden to make tackles in the middle against those teams is asking to be overrun if you aren't pressing intensely. If we put Rodri or whoever we can get in January in that midfield with Gonzalez, we'd have Foden and Cherki floating in that central/right area behind Haaland with the full back providing width.

He looks pretty fit to me and working harder defensively than I have ever seen him before.

He is so obviously a creative genius.

All we really need to for him to get up to the pace of the games in the premier league which is the most demanding.

It'll take him some time to get use to it.
