Will we win the league this season?

FFS.

If we end up with more points than Arsenal then we’ve clearly been more consistent than them results wise.

I can’t get my head round those of you who appear to the arguing otherwise.
You have had a bit of a nightmare here to be fair mate.

If Liverpool went on a massive winning run from here and won the league they wouldn’t have been the most consistent team this season.

Looking forward to seeing all the doom and gloom posts in here after arsenal defeat a mid to lower league table team at home and prove themselves to be the greatest team the premier league has ever seen.

Good to get in early though

They dont have to be we are averaging 2 points a game. It's a league full of inconsistent teams, arsenal are the best and most consistent team at this time. The rodri and Kova injuries have severely hampered us.
But can they handle the pressure of a title run in?

Severely hampered yet we sit 2 points behind them in the table…

Can we win the league?
Of course we can.

Will we win the league?
The League table is providing far more encouragement than our recent performances, but without
Rodri returning to peak fitness or an extraordinary January transfer window, then we'll continue to stutter.

We can always hope that Arsenal drop silly points, but equally we're nowhere near Chelsea's physicality.

They haven't played yet let's see. They certainly don't look as flakey as us.
Think Arteta will be gone if they don't, Chelsea seem to be heading in the right direction as well.

The whole idea is to win games. To gain the most points. That’s what a league is.

Being shit every week (Derby) is not conducive to the aim. Therefore, in this context, your version of consistent is utterly pointless.

If Arsenal continue as they are and we go unbeaten for the rest of the season, but we draw every game, we wouldn’t finish above them, we’d finish in mid table.
There is no fucking “version” of consistency!!!! You’re either consistent or not.

Can we agree: the team with the most points, irrespective of consistency, wins the league.

We have a clear problem with the lack of technical quality in our defense. Our defense is easily penetrated and manipulated. Fulham scored four goals and Leeds two; we barely won against two average teams because of our weak defense and the midfield's inability to provide defensive support. This is usually a major weakness that prevents a team from competing for the title.
I don’t think it’s technical quality we’re short of. Gvardiol is the prime example of this - good first touch, can pick a pass, can finish with the aplomb of a forward player yet he can’t fucking defend for toffee.

He isn’t progressing at all in that regard.

Mate, it's your understanding of the word "consistency" that needs revisiting. If a team is consistently good, it will win things. We were consistently good during our Centurions season, and our quad season, and other seasons.

If it is consistently quite good, or consistently average, it probably won't win much, unless it gets lucky in a good cup run or something.

The team with the most points wins the league I agree.

But I still maintain the most consistent, in terms of results, gets the most points and therefore wins it.

City are top scorers but Arsenal are grinding out results and clean sheets.

Ferguson once claimed that goals win games, but defences win titles?

He was also a bully and a spiteful prick, but he was right with that one.

I disagree. No way do a 10 man Chelsea last season hold out for a point last night. They have something about them this season. Whether that’s enough to go all the way we will see but if Cole Palmer reaches anywhere near last seasons levels they will be a very serious contender.

Reece James was head and shoulders the best player on the park as well I never realised he had that in him as a midfielder.

Don't think we'll win it

Certain that Chelsea won't be near it. I see them going the same way as this time last year when people touted them as being a possible rival for Liverpool and then they couldn't buy a win over Christmas and New Year, losing at home to Fulham and the likes
And there we have it
Didn’t take long

As expected. Villa was always going to be the one to keep an eye on
Absolutely, a game at resurgent free scoring Villa won’t be easy

I wonder if their “fans” are bitching and moaning and crying at the goals they conceded as they climbed the table with a brilliant goal fest away win

Probably not

Consistency is being overrated in this thread.
