Boycotting US stuff

I wouldnt have minded if they just took part in our sport, just joined in.

But taking it over, commercialising it to death, burying clubs with corporate debt, buying the world Cup, installing their own man as head of fifa, peace awards wtf....

I just want them to go away because I fear what a freak show football is going to become even more in future.

Pretty sure Silverlake is a US private equity fund, are you suggesting we support some other team.

What about only buy goods not made in the USA and support any team you want.

I quite like watching Netflix as well.

I’m conflicted already.

You are not alone but the bad is now outweighing the good - the orange obscenity & his mobsters are openly pillaging the planet, backing other fascist regimes together with their proxies and fuelling a race war.

A sixth form college somewhere out there looks to have broken up early for Christmas.
Difficult to imagine a more deluded poster on here. The real world has passed you by.

Right, yeah.

I can see you’ve put a great deal of thought into this, given Silver Lake’s stake in the CFG and their crucial role in the group’s recent infrastructure projects, which are playing a key role in redeveloping a large and deprived area of Manchester.

Not to mention advocating a boycott of the UK’s largest single trading partner and indeed investor (both inward and outward).

But of course I’m the one that the real world has passed by.

Keep up the good work.

You don't seem to know who owns City do you or indeed the meaning of the words in the OP?

Will be impossible and disadvantageous to fully decouple from the USA, but what we can do is reduce risk and dependence by investing more in our own military, surveillance, energy and use European companies for as much as we can.
Sadly we have enemies of Europe trying to push populists to drive us apart, I don't care if you are left wing or right wing that's fine. But parties like Reform, AFD and Le Pen only exist to divide and destroy Europe from within like Trump is doing to the US.
I wish people opened their eyes to the threat we face as it is serious and isn't going away.

No idea how you'd measure that, but I'm *very* sceptical that a market a quarter of the size of the EU generates more profits. If margins were that good, you'd expect volumes to go up!
ONS stats 2023 71.4 billion pounds in surplus, when was the last time the uk was in surplus with the EU. I look forward to the results of your search.

Ah, you don't mean profit. Trade surplus is not profit

The idea that trade is only good when in surplus is entirely wrong. Trade, in either direction, only happens because both parties benefit.

eg when we buy Chinese goods, we benefit from the lower prices in the shops.

Time to give these evil racist gangsters a miss where you can - buy British/European given the choice and support football clubs not part of a US Hedge fund.

Trump's America is not welcome on these shores.
Unfortunately this isn't going to happen because Europe doesn't have any answers to the things that we want.

If you want a European phone which did you pick? If you want a European social media company which do you use? What about a European AI such as ChatGPT? Who is the European Amazon? Millions eat or drink at places like Mcdonalds or Starbucks everyday but what is the European equivalent?

The only dominant European industry in our lives is perhaps the supermarkets (Aldi+Lidl) and the car industry but the latter is slowly being destroyed by China.

Europe is an important goods market to us but in totality and in terms of growth it is slowly becoming less relevant. Much of the growth that we have seen has come from increases in non-EU/US services so if we cut that off we're just cutting off our own legs.

Strange way to view finances when you buy Chinese goods the money or a proportion of it leaves the country, how do you replace that money ? You don’t feel it’s better to have to have a trade surplus so you can invest in your country ?
