This should possibly be in the politics board. A protest against Sheikh Mansour is being organised for 14 January 2026.
CSW (Christian Solidarity Worldwide) will launch a campaign calling on the Premier League to hold Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to account for the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s role in the conflict in Sudan by protesting outside the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Wednesday 14 January 2026.
The issue:
The conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has plunged Sudan into one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. Over 30 million people, including nearly 15 million children, are in urgent need of assistance, at least 150,000 have been killed, and over 13 million have been displaced.
While both warring parties are backed by various international actors, there is credible evidence that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to provide extensive military and financial support to the RSF, a militia suspected of committing a renewed genocide in Darfur .
Throughout the conflict, prominent human rights organisations and media outlets have reported on RSF fighters using a range of sophisticated weaponry either manufactured in, or re-exported by the UAE. Furthermore, in July 2024 reports emerged of the discovery of Emirati passports in Sudan linked to RSF soldiers, suggesting that the UAE may have deployed personnel to assist the fighting.
As vice-president and deputy prime minister of the UAE – and the brother of the president – Manchester City owner Sheikh Msour is well-placed to intervene in the UAE’s role in this conflict; however, he has well-documented personal ties to the leader of the RSF, General Mohamed Hamdan ‘Hemedti’ Dagalo. Mansour has been described as Hemedti’s closest ally in the Emirates; he has hosted the general in the UAE on multiple occasions, and US intelligence officers have intercepted regular phone calls between the two of them.
The objective:
The protest outside the Etihad will coincide with the launch of a petition calling on the Premier League to raise the UAE’s role in prolonging and profiting from the conflict directly with Sheikh Mansour, and to insist that the UAE ends its support for the RSF.
CSW intends to remind the Premier League of its responsibility to prevent human rights abuses, as laid out in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and a March 2023 vote by all Premier League clubs to add a rule to the Premier League Handbook disqualifying individuals responsible for human rights abuses from club ownership.
Our objective is to get Sheikh Mansour to use his power to halt all UAE support to the RSF as a step towards an end to the conflict, which we want to see followed by a return to a civilian-led democratic transition, and ultimately justice and accountability for violations committed both before and during the conflict.
