So, he’s effectively happy to live in the UK with the freedoms that we enjoy as provided by the sacrifices of others ( many of which were doing national service), but doesn’t want to contribute to the nation’s future security.

As for the armed forces not wanting them, I very much suspect that if the shit did hit the fan, the current numbers in the armed forces are totally insufficient and they would need to be bolstered by national service trained personnel.

I don’t see any issues in training the population through national service now as oppose to waiting until it’s too late.

What that training encompasses, I don’t know but being ready is a far safer place to be imo.
