Kalvin is absolutely nowhere near the required standard. ..
How do you know that? He trains regularly with the senior squad and has featured on the OS winning side photo also played in a previous round.

This game will tell us a lot with the squad players. They are rested and talented enough to perform. Yes we would all like to win this trophy but not at the expense of running the first team into the ground. It is chance for the bench and the academy lads to step up and they have to take the chance. I don’t want to see any of the first team starting. Would accept Reindeers as chance to get some goals and maybe Cherki if he still needs fitness but none of the others.

Surely Kovacic is close to a return & Kalvin hardly needs a rest so we have central midfield bodies. Play as strong a team as possible to get the game won then think about resting some...people are forking out good money for tickets...I dont agree with letting the game slide...it's also disrespectful to the sponsors.
Kovacic is out until March

Kovo out until next year

I believe neither Kov or Rodri have trained with the squad yet and as for Philips I don't think he has laced his boots in months. There is more chance of Stones putting in an appearance I would have thought.

I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that Rodri will get an hour. He’s been training for weeks. This is probably the lowest pressure/intensity match we have until Galatasaray, so it might be a good game for him to get some minutes.

Obviously injury aside.

Then it’s a case of who needs resting the most.

We may even see Rico at left back…

Think we might see an academy player in midfield and one either at RB or CB, depending on where Khusanov plays

Might even suggest Heskey or McAidoo should start on the wing here, since savio and bobb will be needed for the bigger games in the next little while

Call it watching his every appearance for City with my own eyes; the fact that weve loaned him out numerous times to try to get rid of him, and the fact that hes been so poor weve thus been unable to sell him.

But sure, give him a start to him on Weds when that game experience would be far more valuable to a player who actually has a future at the club. Its Christmas so maybe its "win a game for City" time! Hardly rocket science but if youre waiting for Kalvin to be even a mediocre serviceable player for us, youd think the penny might have dropped after 3 and a half seasons that it isnt going to ever happen.

I heard that Rodri is training and has been fit for a while. City are being ultra careful with him. Same happened with Dias the other year.

It's an interesting one, because we're deep into the competition, but at same time I think certain players just can't play, and if we go out we go out.

the DM position feels like the real issue here, and I feel like we might be forced to play a kid there.

Honestly not going to be surprised if Pep doesnt rotate much

Pep wants trophies and this is a good opportunity, and he has a history of overworking his players and being cautious with rest... the Bayer Lev game would've put doubts in his mind

The problem is the player we need to res tif Nico G and hes the only holding midfielder fit for this (Pep is not going to use Phillips)

Perhaps. If he is fully fit one would expect to see him sooner rather than later I would have thought.

I‘d probably do something like this:

——————-—-Trafford———-
Young RB-Khusanov-Dias-Ake
————————-Phillips———
—————Lewis———-Reijnders
———Bobb—Young CF——-Savinho

No idea who the RB and CF would be. Whoever is most advanced in those positions.

All the big guns on the bench to do the last 20 mins if needed/worthwhile.
