Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

Let's agree to disagree. This is a City forum, I'm an Arsenal fan, we are going to have our own biases. Heck it wasn't so long ago someone on here amazingly posted that Aguero was a better player than Henry so we are hardly going to have a neutral discussion on this!
Let's have it right - Tony was a top player for sure, but I think Sergio just shaded him in terms of goalscoring ability.

  • Aguero: ~184 PL Goals / 275 Games (108 mins/goal).
  • Henry: ~175 PL Goals / 258 Games (122 mins/goal).
  • Hat Tricks: Aguero (12) Henry (8).
  • 20+ Goal Seasons: Aguero (6) Henry (5).
  • Assists: Henry (74) Aguero (47).
  • Trophies: Aguero 5 PL titles Henry's 2.
IMO both were great players but to think that it is amazing to suggest on a City Forum that Aguero was better than Henry, is a prime example of Overbearing Tarquin Syndrome.

I understand it’s a non-treatable condition but thankfully it isn’t infectious.

This level of arrogance is fucking incredible, they have so much more fun for fucking it up than getting it over the line, its exactly this reason why people think arsenal fans are idiots.
They simply never learn instead of simply congratulating each other applauding te fans and simply moving on to the next game they turn into a mass over the top party ................i remember beating you lot 5-1 ?????? Last season and yet again going way over the top and you know whats incoming they never learn .............as for the 5 years without winning nothing being ok :) West Ham and Tottenham have won more in that time

Thats because you have bought into the English media narrative. And he’s not fluid enough to play in a top class midfield.
Not really. I’m the last person on earth that buys into that narrative, he already plays in a top class midfield. As good as City at our peak? Certainly not but I think you need to take off you blue tinted specs my little Ozzy psycho

These play 23/12, granted they’ll make changes, then again 27/12
We have a weeks rest from Saturday. These things count.

You’re stubborn and I respect that. However he simply isn’t as good a player as you think he is and you have fallen for the narrative.

If you are going to build a team around Declan Rice then you aren’t going to win many major trophies and so far this statement has been proven to be correct.

Going to be a miserable xmas for the soft southern bast*ards, even if they manage to humble Everton the thought of our boys breathing down their necks is surely going to ruin the turkey dinner.

Happy Xmas :-)

Mate, never mind next week, Everton away at the weekend is a big worry. Much like in Manchester , we seem to always play shite on Merseyside as well, be it Anfield, Goodison, this Hill Dick stadium probably not be any different.

But were we?

In 22/23 I can understand it, I believe we were 8 points ahead, you had a game in hand and a game at The Etihad I believe.

In 23/24, we won 16 out the last 18 games, drawing 1 and losing 1. Is that seen as a bottle nowadays? It's actually a better end of season record than Liverpool had when they were chasing you and finished on 97 points.

In 24/25, we didn't spend much money at all. We were never top of the league, we were always well off it as well. So is that a different type of bottling?

This season, most people including you guys rightly pointed out that leads after 12 or 13 games mean very little as it could be from something simple such as a quirk in the fixture list, or short term form or whatever.
Yes.

Laughing at Fernandinho being in that class shows a bit of ignorance tbh because he was immense in that midfield role for City for a number of years. Very underrated player.
Rodri was bought because we needed a player of a similar level to replace Fernandinho as he aged, that's the importance Fernandinho had in our team.

Fern was God.
Rodri just showed us that God takes many forms.

Do you know 1 thing we do still lack, is that elite attacking player that almost seems inevitable, than posts elite numbers and can win games on his own when things do get a bit sticky. You have it just now Haaland, and Foden when he's on form, Liverpool had it last year with Salah.

Our best attacking players are probably still Odegaard and Saka, very good players, and at points in time they have threatened to, but don't think they reach that elite bracket yet in terms of sheer output in terms of match winning.

Maybe Gyokeres was meant to be an output merchant for a forward, but that obviously hasn't worked. It's still a bit damning out best central forward if everyone is at peak fitness is a toss up between Havertz and Jesus with 2 fecked knees.

Think this is a fair appraisal of where you're at currently. Too early to write Gyokores off completely perhaps but he was always going to struggle to replicate the numbers from his Sporting days. Sure he'll still score his fair share of goals for you.

Was just giving my view of affirmation to your question on whether your team had bottled it. I just think that in all three, in one way or another, they have. But we were a great team, so there's that (to cling onto;)

...and we also have Cherki now, wouldn't you agree? He looks like a steal, you'll never hear it in the media though. Ali Bernarbia vibes. You won't understand that, probably. But this lad could be absolutely magic! IMO obviously.

...I used to like Odegaard, used to play in the "ex-scandi midfield" mould where he always seemed to make his own time, classy with a very well hidden bit of a naughty, nasty touch (if you know what I mean) but got to agree 100% about him flattering to deceive, looks to surprisingly be well on the wane now, earlier and from far less a footballing height than I would've predicted, but who knows. Maybe a series of blips? Maybe anything.
Used to look a really classy player, hope his legs have gone. :)
Great player IMO.

Saka could be so good, but I think he's a bit "headless" at the minute. Good player and great at many things.
Great at beating a man one-on-one with a trick and pace.
Great at finishing one-on-one.
Great at diving and appealing to the ref.
The list of his attributes is almost endless. :)
Good player, could be very, very good, don't like certain elements of him/his play.. I thing he, more than many, has been quite negatively affected as a player by the "snide trick learning" style, maybe I lean towards him just needing some "good coaching". Lego head is mental :) IMO.

I honestly think that if your lot went full on "false nine" with yet another attacking midfield on, you'd probably smash the league. Who knows!

Anyway, your lot bottled it, hopefully they do it again.

Cherki was an insane bargain. My PSG supporting mate said he's a phenomenal player and Arsenal should have gotten him but that now he'll give City that Mahrez-style unpredictability. I didn't see it at the time. I'm starting to see it now.

Cherki as a pure talent is unlike anything else in the prem. Whether he's got the x factor to be a real difference maker when we will need him to step up at the business end of the season, remains to be seen. For now he's a unique talent who is an absolute joy to watch I must admit. But he's got big shoes to fill because the lads that have gone before him have been key to us winning trophies year after year. So that's the level he has to show that he's capable of operating at.
