Russian invasion of Ukraine

Apart from losing thousands upon thousands of soldiers, military hardware, top officials, economic crisis and becoming a pariah nation who are hated more now than at most stages of their existence I think Russia are doing great.
Yay for Russia.
The reality or tragedy of the situation is Russia in almost every war they’re involved in they are prepared to lose thousands upon thousands of men and hardware to achieve their objectives, they never seem mind being pariahs they’re use to it. That said they definitely ain’t doing great losing so many young men and national wealth.

Was meant to be done and dusted in 3 months as well wasn't it? How's that going for them?

Agree with your post though. The top brass don't give one shiny fuck about how they reach their destination and are quite prepared for massive losses on both a human and structural level as long as eventually do.

Yay Russia.

3 days not months.

Think they expected Ukraine to fold in days without much resistance, don’t think they expected the west to flood military assistance in on the scale they have either. Think it’s a case of the Russian military and Putins big vanity face saving project now no matter the cost.

They've pretty much conquered their important war goals and are generally just holding it now. Bridging their exclave to Crimea was the entire point. They're winning by most ways you want to measure it
If you think the entire point was bridging Crimea then I’ve got another bridge you should have a look at.

And you appear to disagree, but to my mind the loss of a million men is certainly a valid way of measuring whether Russia is winning or not. Think the effect on their economy is another one that presumably you don’t think is especially important. Or their relations with their European neighbours. These are all ways that I would measure Russia’s success in this war, and am surprised that you view them as nugatory, given what you’ve posted.

These losses previously occurred at times when the Russian birthrate was prolific enough to replace the losses within a couple of generations. The combination of the losses in the war and the brain drain that has occurred since 2022, mean the previous certainties around Russia’s meat-grinding military strategy no longer apply.

Trouble is they have 21 million men of military age compared to Ukraines 7 so they've plenty to get thru yet.

I tend to think more historically mate. Diplomatic relations thaw, economies improve, populations recover but land is land. I tend to measure most wars on land lost vs gained tbh.

Such a poor quality of Russian stooges now.

Get with the program - "Kyiv was just a feint" is so 2022.

Your current talking point should be "Russian advance is inexorable; Ukraine would be better to surrender now than next year"

Yes mate, I've been a sleeper agent on here for 17 years as an admin just in hopes that Russia will invade somewhere so my paymasters in the Kremlin will send us some money to influence the likes of you, you fucking berk

Get with the program Dam, nobody is allowed to have an open mind in this thread, the lads that hardly ever post anything to do with football on a football forum run this show

Fighting the next war based on previous war is one of the most oft repeated military mistakes.

Attackers need a 7 to 1 ratio to overwhelm defenders so it’s not a huge advantage mate.
The rule is 3-1, but a dominance of Air has to be factored in. Platoon against a Section, Company over Platoon, Battalion over Company. Then you get into Battle Groups and Brigade Groups.

7-1 would over-run, and allow drive-past.

Not often you’d be in a 7-1 position.

I always thought 3 to 1 was the general rule of thumb but lots of other factors to include.
